Booze is very much legal in the Middle East (at least UAE and Qatar) - but only in certain places such as hotels for visitors / expats or sold under licence. However, my experience has been that you still can see the local (men) in hotels with a beer in hand.

You definitely don't want to bring any into the country with you through the airport though (or pork or porn)

And even then, if you're an expat and know who to ask you can attend embassy events with booze.

also we have a travel team, but god forbids we ask them to sort it, nooo, we have to use the online tool which then asks you to give a reason as to why you've picked a hotel within the rate cap, i mean, what? "because you wont let me pick one above it?" isnt an allowed response...

Or drugs... one evening before heading to Dubai I decided I'd clean out my bag. No particular reason, just hadn't done it in a while, emptied it all out to just hoover out general dust and bits from the bottom.
Underneath a crease in the bottom, such that I wouldn't really know it was in there unless I fully emptied the bag out, and could easily appear as if I was trying to conceal it... a strip of codeine tablets. It would have been following me around for at least a couple of months of travel, graciously not to any travel in the middle east - this was mid Sept and I tried to avoid travel to the region over the summer for obvious reasons.

That could have gone very badly in another timeline.

For me it's health.

I suffer from back, neck & hip pain and I am really in need to advice as the pain is so bad I feel like ending my life at times. I have other health issues too, including having to require the bathroom up to 4x per hour, whilst also becoming very thirsty/weak (diabetes symptoms though several blood tests have never come back with diabetes). Been back to the doctors a few times for this, I've been referred to hospital however there they told me that they can't find anything as the blood tests are fine and that the problem is in my head!

I've a trapped nerve in my hand, due to an accident I had when I was a child. My hand went through glass, after an operation I never regained full feeling/sensitivity. It flares up regularly, if I am holding something I end up dropping it. Feels like a knife stabbing you from the inside, very painful. Only thing I find helps is applying olive oil regularly. The doctor said that they could perform an operation however it could create further problems. Dry skin condition too, which wouldn't be too problematic on its own however with the existing conditions just adds to the problems.

Regarding the back pain It started when I had a fall during my first time ice skating back around 2008/09 when I was 13 or 14. I was on crutches at the time. I never fully recovered from that fall as my left hip never regained full movement, it was always tight. For example, still to this day I can't put my left knee to my chest.

Anyway it was still liveable, my pain was manageable. Then around 2015 I started a call centre job, after around a month in that's when my back and neck pain started and then became real bad I had to quit the job. I just could not work and still cannot work. Now when I sit down or stand up for even a couple of minutes the pain becomes real bad.

The pain, it moves so sometimes I feel it somewhere on the lower back, then it moves to the upper, the neck, the side, even round to my front behind the ribs!

Whenever I have been to the GP all they have advised are pain killers and have made an appt with the physio each time. Physio, each time same thing they showed me a few exercises and that's it. The physio atleast found why I have back pain, as when they took my knee to my chest and tried to move my left leg/knee they said it had siezed (I assume they were referring to the hip). I explained about the ice skating fall and they said thats what the issue is, the back pain emanated from there.

I am seeing a physio as well as an Osteopath privately. The physio I find is no help however the Osteopath found that from my left hip, all the way up to my neck and even my right rib I am out of sync. After a painful session he said either it will have worked or not as due to muscle memory it can revert to type. On the way home from that session the pain came back and now I'm back where I started. Just don't know what to do anymore.

The only time when the pain is lessened Is whilst I'm walking. As soon as I stand still or sit down for even a couple of minutes it comes back. If I bend down to pick something up, that also brings it on immediately.

Sorry for bringing all this negativity on here.

 

@maple I have never used an Osteopath, but have great faith in a decent Chiropractor, who looks at things holistically.
My Mum went to the chiro last week for a quarterly 'MOT' (as both parents have bad backs), and he was able to sort the tingling in her arm & leg which were nerve problems, and also her migrane that came on that morning.

Obvs, they can't do/sort everything, but if part of you is out of kilter, butting it back and training the muscles to help it stay in the right place does work.

I went to a chiro after a car accident in 97, with lower back pain, and they asked 'what have you done to your neck?' that was reassuring.
I still have an off/on lower back weakness in the winter, which can be brought on by cold muscles and forgetting to NOT rotate at the waist when carrying stuff.

This may get to a root cause rather than treating the symptoms.

I wish you luck in getting some sort of resolution.

Inconsiderate neighbour... She's always been fairly well mannered for the most part. The last few days she's had what I'm led to believe is her brother and sister in law over helping with some DIY. A loud aggressive old blob of a man, swearing in between every single word out of his mouth. Seems like a big old job on their hands as they've had a never ending train of crap coming out which I presume is dump bound.

Now if they're not hacking away at the grass with a strirmmer to leave it mounded on the path we own... They seem to be using my front garden as a bit of a holding pen for crap they're not intending on moving anytime soon to protect the newly cut grass.

Having nearly just plunged a series of rusty nails through my barefoot I've done the noble thing and hurled it back onto their front lawn.

Didn't plan on doing any labouring this weekend but what are neighbours for?

Boy, that 0430 alarm hit hard…

 

I got so wound up today my pee actually boiled.

I pay my water bills every 6 months. I am very frugal, and it's cheap AF. Any way I get billed by two companies. Portsmouth Water for incoming water, and Southern Water for the drainage water. They are the same physical amount. Any way, I got my Portsmouth bill about 3 months back. It was £48 IIRC. I paid it instantly, as I do. I put £20 a month into a bill account by standing order, so I usually have more than enough to cover both. Well the amount has built up to £90, yet no bill from Southern. It isn't like I haven't been looking out for it either.

So today I was leaving the flat to come to my mother's and I see this opened letter just sitting on the ledge on the landing. I figured I would be nosey and see what it was. It was for me. Note I said opened. Rather dishevelled too. Looked at it and it is printed in red. "We are sending bailiffs to collect the unpaid bill". Eh? what fookin bill?!?!?

So I looked at the amount. £36. JFC. Stuffed it in my hoodie and came over. When I got here I looked at it again. The address is totally pissed. Like, different flat number, different door number, wrong street, wrong street number and wrong postcode. And then it dawned on me. This **** has happpened SIX ****ING TIMES in the three years I have lived there. Only this collections letter was sent on the 12th May.

Took me over an hour to sort it out on the phone, and then pay the £36. FFS what did they think I would do? leave the country over £36? maybe try effing ringing me before you send me to a sodding bailiff over THIRTY SIX QUID. I have once again instructed them to change the address, but I don't think that is going to stick so come next week I am formally complaining. Like I want my credit score (that I don't need or use, but that's beside the point if I move BT won't let me have a sodding phone line if its crap !) destroyed over their stupid bloody error.
