    I'm in the process of upgrading my HT/VR PC I'm upgrading the 5600X to a 5700X and Titan X to a 3090.

I've been using a wraith prism up until now which is great but the fan is a bit irritating when it spins up ( when watching movies or browsing )

I'm considering upgrading to either a 92mm noctua tower cooler or a 120mm or 140mm top down cooler. Anyone have experience of these coolers Vs each other or the prism?

My case is a Silverstone Grandia GD09 with a max cooler height of 138mm.

    Thanks
    Scott

Top down cool your VRM too.

I had one of those noctua 92mm in push pull years ago. It wasnt really enough to overclock a phenom 2 940. I won a NHD14 in a comp and used that.

Noctua do a sweet top down if you have room.

I've used the Noctua U9s in a couple of systems - https://noctua.at/en/nh-u9s/specification and have had no complaint. You can add another fan for extra cooling. I've always been happy with the noise level but then I've not been cooling anything as hot as that. Are you sure a GD09 can really cope with a 5700X and a 3090? Seems like a very hot combination for a case with very modest cooling

In my experience a Noctua U9(S) will be fine on a 65w chip. I had one on a 5800X (a little toasty) and then a 5900X running in 65w eco mode (no problems).

Noctua also do some really good top down coolers. I used an L12 Ghost Edition on the 5900X for a while in my Loque Raw S1 and it cooled it just fine. If you’ve got the space in your case the C14 is a real winner. I’d just say get he biggest cooler you can fit in the case and you should be fine for a 65w chip.

I have no idea but I can but try :) Worse still I'm trying to do it with a 650W PSU. There will be significant undervolting going on!

The 80mm is facing the other way and this is with a different GPU. Think the 92mm tower is probably better since it should push the hot air towards the exhaust fan.

This is why I prefer a big case, no having to force everything in with a crowbar and lump hammer.

I'm a little disappointed with its performance basically nothing in it between this and the wraith prism. The Noctua is quieter but not as quiet as I expected.

Mine comfortably cooled an i9 9900, on Z board and not gimped to 65w.

TBF, I don't know how that compares to a 5700x

I've revised my opinion, just played Forza horizon 5 then flight sim. CPU temp was usually around 64-66 with one spike to 74, Much quieter than the prism when it's not doing cinebench. I think at full fan speed there's not a lot of difference in cooling performance but with normal loads the Noctua is miles quieter.

520.9W from the wall before undervolting the GPU during 3D Mark torture tests. Around 480W after undervolting. GPU temps 74 during the test and mid 60s during normal gaming. Quite pleased with that!

I don't think any 90mm tower will be able to compete with the noise/performance capability of a very good 140mm downdraft cooler. I looked at getting a U9 for my work PC but nabbed a Thermalright AXP-200 Muscle on ebay really cheap (I think it was like £10) and it is inaudible. There's also plenty room to mount a much better fan if desired. But damn, does the cooler take up space...
