The Matrix Resurrections Damn, Doogie Howser got old / 10. Disappointing, but to be expected, I didn't hate it but I'm glad I didn't pay to watch it, has a straight to DVD quality about it.
As full-on Matrix fans in this house, we also found this (or at least the first 30+ minutes of it) disappointingly almost an exact replay of the earlier films. We got about that far or a bit more through it a few weeks back and haven't picked it up again since. We will, of course, but it seems to have slipped down the priority list somewhat.
Prey - Comanche/10 Now thats what i'm talking about. "This is as far as you go. No more. This is it."
Was slow though wasn't it ... hardly any action scenes at all. Nah .. it's a near non-stop action adventure romp, and the best predator film since predator. edit to add : predator and pirates, that's what I want now !
Now that is interesting, that you guys say that. I thought the trailer looked boring and derivative. I'll be giving it a go anyway, because it's Predator, but my expectations may have been raised slightly now.
Yeah, after seeing the trailer, I was expecting some super-woke girl power nonsense. I was wrong. I really enjoyed it.
You know, like when Brie Larson touches something and gets Twitter all over it. (I leave it to your imaginations who I'm making fun of, and which side of the exceedingly boring culture war I'm on. The only pleasure to be had from any of it is to hide in ambiguity and watch people become steadily more annoyed.)
Moonfall - *facepalm*/10 Bad. Just bad. Bad acting, bad script, bad ideas, just bad. The only redeeming feature? laughably ludicrous destructive cgi.
Sandman - Comics are alive! / 10 This is an almost perfect realization of the comic. EDIT - Moved to TV thread I'd forgotten existed
WHAT ! What's this ?? This is the movie thread not the telly one !!! (watched the first couple so far - it's pretty "out there" isn't it.)
Ethel and Ernest - Sweet & charming/10 Caught this on BBC 2 last night (so probably on iplayer) Animated movie by Raymond Briggs (illustrator) about his parents which quite simply follows their (mostly) "normal" lives from the early 30s, the birth of Raymond, through the war and the subsequent decades and ultimately their death. It had heart and charm and seemed to be a celebration of the mundane (but still unique) life of his parents. I'll admit it put a tear in my eye a few times and the ending isn't exactly cheering but I thought it was overall a great celebration of life. Highly recommend if you can tolerate slower paced but still engaging movies.
Matrix Resurrections - better than I was expecting/10 That said, I was expecting very little Spiderman the last one, not my house, don't know where I am, multiverse thingamajig one - better than the one before/10 Probably better because of the Dr Strange cameo
Moonfall - absolute Tosh but I watched it to the end just to berate how shoddy the effects were! Moonfail would have been a better title but I'm not expecting Citizen Kane from Roland Emmerich! In all honesty, since subscribing to those chaps on Youtube (The Corridor Crew), I am overly and overtly critical of nearly all CG effects. Blue/ Green/ whatever screen is pretty blatant in everything now and unless there's a new change in effects driven content, I'm going to be taken out of the experience due to bad physics, poor composite work and similar. Example - I'm a fan of Stranger Things but the most recent season had some pretty poor composite work with blue screen. Turning off any post-processing stuff on your TV helps (motion smoothness, etc) but it's still pretty poor. Alien Resurrection 4/10 - My boy is 13 now so we are going through the Alien content before hitting up Predator this weekend. I forgot that A4 was a comedy! Bobs Burgers The Movie - "Paranormal Pepper Jack-tivity Burger" out of "I Fought the Slaw Burger (And the Slaw Won)" Feature length episode with heart and easily passes the six-laugh test! The Batman - RBatz < The Bale = 7 Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were a tough act to follow but The Batman was proper broody - I couldn't sleep one evening so watched it from about 3 in the morning - never looked at my watch once and, certainly forgiving of certain aspects, really enjoyed it. I can see that, if they don't mess up the second one, he may be up there with Keaton. Shame about the cancelled Batgirl film - we might not see Keaton as Batman again! Birdman - hidden cuts out of Ten I watched this the same day - Keaton is great as is Ed Norton... the jazz gets under your skin but I thought this was clever, particularly some of the special effects... that I didn't know were special!
