Don't ask me how but I bent some pins when inserting the CPU. Got everything fixed and it's running perfectly fine right now, but bloody hell... I didn't need that stress.

 

One of my least favourite things about AM4 Ryzens.

If I have my way the next swap will see the CPU, motherboard, and water block sold as one unit so I don't have to deal with CPU pins ever again.

OT: There was a Steam Deck shaped accident.

 

But you're vastly more likely to break AM4 pins... And Apple offers that combination

 

Pins? That's always been one thing I liked about AMD, line it up and plop it in.

So to speak.

 

One of these but in size 12, definitely not a shove in the travel kit brush.

 

Except when it doesn't just plop in. Then the fun and games turn into work and a lot of swearing.

The sad thing is, even if I sell it as one unit, I still have the original packaging for this processor, so it'll get removed, cleaned, and put in that so my fantasy is just that - Fantasy

I'm glad you got it sorted, if I think about it I can fell the combination rage/panic I would have whilst shouting "you need to stay effin calm" to myself.

 

Been there, dropped a 2700X when I was installing it onto my file server's mobo.
The following 30mins bending pins back into place with the back of a scalpel blade were... fraught!

 

Pin straightening is a nightmare.

I haven't done it since the socket A days, and I've since been so paranoid about the damned things that AM5 is appealing just on that front.

I'd just blocked the horror. That's scary in itself.

I now actually remember back in the day straightening a pin using one of those refillable pencils (worked a treat).

How did I forget that? That's concerning.

The first time I used Intel LGA socket though it freaked me out - I thought surely it's not supposed to sound like your dragging nails down a blackboard as you close the lever

 

Last CPU I straightened out pins was a Pentium 4 2GHz. Friend told me I could keep it, he didn't think I'd manage (I had a 1.8GHz). I did manage, but it didn't overclock anywhere near as well as my 1.8.

Yeah, my first LGA socket was in a server, which had me considerably more on edge than they do these days, even though the noises are the same

 

Aw man, i remember slot one. slot A as well.

 

I had a slot processor, but I never had a slot motherboard.
