    Hi all,

got an odd problem after i recently upgraded.

On my first/cold boot my display goes into standby and says no input detected. If i force a power off and back on it then boots no problems and works perfectly fine. No crashes ever during games or handbrake.

    current setup

    AMD 5800x3d (temps are 30-85c)
Gigabyte B550m DS3H mobo with latest bios F16 (also tried previous revision F15)
    2x 8GB patriot DDR4 3200mhz 14-14-14-38 @1.35V with XMP on.
    Nmve Pci 4 - WD SN850x 2TB
    8GB 6600XT
3x large storage WD drives connected to SATA
1x USB to SATA connector for BLU-RAY drvie
1x USB corsair HS70 pro wireless headset
    Windows 10 pro 64-bit

    so step by step;

    1. power on and bios logo appears and loading circle for windows
    2. mouse lights go off for 2-3 seconds then back on.
    3. display says no DP input detected goes into standby
    4. PC remains on but nothing else happens
    5. force off and on and immediately boots in to logon screen ready

    things ive tried

updating bios and optimised defaults in bios
turned off fast boot and CSM in bios
turned off fast boot in windows
    latest windows 10 updates
    lastest drivers for everything
my upgrade was a fresh install of windows 10 pro 64-bit

anyone any ideas? cant seem to get it to boot first time at all.

    thanks,

    Adam

I'm probably blind, I can't see a graphics card listed? Might be worth adding your graphics card to see if it's driver or card related.

Try turning off XMP, to see if it's a RAM timing thing.

As above, what's your graphics card and what connection are you using?

Have you tried a different DP on your 6600XT? I used to have a similar thing with an RX480.

I had that once, I can't remember if just turning the monitor off/on and/or unplugging/plugging the cable back in did it. Was very simple iirc as I was all set for a frantic problem solving sesh.

Never seemed to do it again after that.

What happens if you don't switch the monitor on until after you've turned the pc on, that is a few seconds after - say when you'd hit the log on screen?

    Same thing?

My second monitor goes blank at the login screen, which sound exactly like what you're describing. Try typing in your password anyways (enter>password>enter) and see if you see your desktop, sans icons or start menu.
Not sure how a phantom monitor would appear, but it's at least something to try on the troubleshooting tree.

Sounds like a cold boot issue rather than Windows or driver issue. (typing pin doesn't do anything)

Is there any motherboard controlled fan? do they spin at max power until you hard reset? What about the GPU fan?
Is there any visual diagnostic from the motherboard on which bit it might be stuck on?

    Can you try another PSU?

I still think it could be a memory issue of some kind.

Do you have any spare memory to test?
    Are the modules installed in the correct slots i.e. slots 2 & 4 (or A2 & B2)?
Have you tried a single stick?

i dont and yes they are A2 B2

havent tried a single stick but worth a go.

I should note my previous board had no issues and its the same RAM (Asus ROG Strix B350-F)

Ive had a similar issue recently with AM4. Booting with a single stick of RAM cured , then restarting with both sticks was ok.

Messed a bit with the RAM yesterday.

    1. tried a single stick - no dice
    2. tried switching the channels A1, B1 - no dice

scouring online might be a driver issue but im not convinced. It suggested a roll back from 20.11.x to around 20.5 which is a big leap back. Ill give it ago as it cant hurt but nothing has effected it so far.

Could you try your monitor with HDMI rather than DP?

    Same thing. No luck

I have also tried booting safe mode and checking to see if onboard display drivers is present and it isnt.
