    Hi all,

Been lurking about 6 months now and thought I'd post again. ;)

Anyhow, I was inspired by the movie Return of the King. I was astonished at the look of Minas Morgul -- specifically, the eerie ice-green light, how it dissipates toward the top and the dirty white walls of the keep... the layers...

I want to recreate that in case and lights and since I'm a n00b, I need some ideas as to how to execute... ideas? Pointers to another similar thread?

    Thanks!

See attached (crappy) screenshots if you haven't seen or remember the flick...

It might work if you had frosted plexi over a white case (you could also make the case from plexi, and spray one side white). If you lit the plexi from the bottom with fairly dim diffused green leds, i think you might get the effect you're after.

First thing that you should know, when you have highyl advanced CGI its really easy to make things (like the keep) look really cool

Id suggest frosted plexi with, a cathlode at the bottom, or print that lovely pic of yours out onto a transparency, get some scotch tape, and tape it to the side of your case.

While I know you were joking (you were joking weren't you?) that gave me an idea for this project.

What if you used overhead projector sheets, printing a grayscale graph on it, that went from white at the bottom to black at the top, unevenly. The white would be transparent on the sheets. Then if you lit them from behind with a green ccfl you would get a similiar affect to the pictures.

    Make sense at all?

It makes snese. Perhaps the same theory only lose the sheets and get the window laser etched progressivly more agressive as you reach the top.

    Thanks for the suggestions...

I don't think I'll be using any of the attached pix up there... the quality is below "meh"... perhaps when the DVD comes out ... ;)

I'll look into the partially frosted/tinted window bit... might work...

I was joking about the picture/tape thing, I just want to make sure you realize that.
