Hey Guys, TOA here. I'm building my home entertainment pc and I want all your suggestion on what software and shells I should use to run it. Links are very helpful. I greatly appreciates your suggestions, and a project log is coming soon.
http://myhtpc.net/ ^ a very good source for htpc software information, and serves as a very good front end
Thanks, that is one of the programs that I'm almost definetly gonna use. Do you have any other ideas? Like what PVR software, DVD player, os, CD Player, etc... I'm really open to suggestions. Thanks in advance you guys.
Does that program just act as a front can you get all the files from the pc form another pc via network? just thinking of a mp3 pc storage thingamabob.
Ever thought about Linux? I'm setting up my HTPC with this OS in order to make it act as a router/firewall for my internet connection too... Free OS, free applications, lots of documentation.... all you need is some patience and some programming skills...
Schultz, yes you can access files on a network drive. What Linux or windows version should I use? Windows 98 would be good for a small hardrive. XP for a bigger self contained media pc. Your thoughts you guys.
Do you think a 1.8 Ghz and 30 Gb drive with 512 mb RAM would be overkill for something that is going to be networked to a much larger drive and more powerful system.
maybe not all the ram but 1.8 is what im looking at i think well mine is going to be 120 gb hd heheh lots of mp3's
I have 2 htpcs one uses myhtpc software and it works well mainly as a pvr. I purchased a duron 1600mhz and overclocked it to 2000mhz which is enough for most things.
I don't think that that would be would be enough for PVR and DVD playing and MPEG encoding, mp3 ripping, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong here guys.
I only mean for mp3 viewing Oh and i will be using suse linux personal 8.2 Is this suported on that myth tv
Yeah but I want to watch tv and record live tv. Watch dvds and encode them to mpeg and send send over to a network drive. Where can I get an Epia 800 Mhz board with hardware encoding like the one used in beQuiet?
