Networks really need some help

    ok...i have two machines networked and all things have been running fine! yay for me, however about a week ago, my M/Board kinda died in my main machine so off I went and got a new one. :wallbash:

    Turned both machines on and although I can connect the two machines via VNC and I can ping my "fileshare" system from my main rig, I cannot ping the other way!

    I have tried configuring the machines to be on a fixed IP as opposed to the normal dynamic.

    Can anyone shed some light on what I could try??

    Check the Win XP firewall? I think with the new service pack some sort of firewall gets installed too; it might blocking ports that MS felt were vulnerable (e.g. FTP, SMTP)

    I take it that you had to go through the steps of setting up the NIC and IP all over again on the system with the new board?

    don't panic.....don't panic!!

    The problem is all sorted. For some reason, obviously after my new board install my firewall decided to be over protective and block all attempts from my "fileshare" so a quick addition to my trusted zones and I am back on track.
