Ok, so now that project abduction is finished its time to start a new project. I have been planning on this for sometime now, and I have had inspiration from other's car mp3 projects but mine will be slightly different. I plan on using the micro-atx format and build that into an alum case which will be mounted under the console passenger side airbag. I will draw up some schematics and pics of where things will be going shortly. A list of parts to get: * 400watt power inverter * 7" touch panel LCD * micro-atx mainboard * 512mb DDR PC2100 RAM * 120GB WD SE 7200RPM HDD * DVD-ROM * PSU * 4-Channel Speakers (4 total) * 4-Channel AMP * MISC cables I am building a custom user interface to display on the 7" LCD touch panel which I am making out of macromedia flash. I will either use active desktop to display it or tell windows to boot the .swf file instead of explorer.exe FEATURES: * Custom User Interface controls (GPS, DVD, DIVX, MPEG4, AVI, WIFI, NEWS, RADIO, PLAYSTATION 2, AUX, MP3, REAL TIME STATS) * The WIFI will get a boost as i am also building a 2' antenna to be mounted on the roof which will give me about a 1 - 2 mile radius.. gotta love those unsecure hotspots THE CAR: 97' Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition I will update soon with more pics of the jeep. For the wiring of the comp audio i have designed this:
Wow, sounds like a good project. Can you boot to a .swf ? I didn't think that was possible. As for the antenna, don't you need a license for an antenna that long? Or were you planning on just laying it down on the roof?
That sounds like a cool idea. A friend of mine has an aftermarket DVD player that transmits the audio by broadcasting on a radio frequency - is that what the antenna is for?
thats what in had in mind, but you need a licence (in aus you do anyways) and tey are like $2k i think (think think think becaseu not to sure)
the antenna is not to broadcast audio.... it is to pick up wireless hotspots further then current limitation of 300feet
You do need a license for antennas to recieve WiFi also. It's for the same reason wireless G booster antennas are illegal for some reason - I'd recomend looking into it before you get arrested! -TX297
Well maybe if you got something short enough like this. We have an antenna on the back of our car for the cellphone thats about 6" tall and its legal. Or maybe you could put the antenna inside the car...It might not affect it as much as you think.
In the US im pretty sure its legal as long as you only broadcast a very small signal. Any kind of normal radio broadcast requires some sort of fee I'm sure.
