Wow, this is awesome. I'd ship something to you so you could get some work out of the router but I'm afraid shipping would cost more than the job would here (if I were to go to a company and have it done)

That is possibly one of the coolest things I have ever seen. How much time do you think you have invested in it? That is definitely amazing :) A great display of mechanical and electrical work

So Kong, is this thing finished, abandoned, forgotten or just dead?

    ;)

Did the router do all the work, or did you have some stock wheels and make a few changes ?

I turned the wheels on the lathe, but the router cut out the designs in the centre, and on the reverse is a 12mm hex nut hole, which engages with the drive-nut on the cars axles.

Sorry guys, I guess I'm just not much of a modder anymore! :sigh:

It is ok. You now have a machine you can make just about anything with. I like that stuff a lot. I wish I had a cnc machine. So how fast is this rc car in ft/min, or is it gonna be more accurate to describe it in Kph?

From what he's said previously, it's a nitromethane/internal combustion job.

They tend (IIRC) to get clocked in MPH, so KPH would be more appropriate than ft/min.

And as far as the wheels go, I'm impressed. Especially since it sounds like you started from raw barstock aluminium.

Yep, the car will go 50Mph, and the wheels started off as 2.5" dia x 2" length solid bar. My lathe is very slow, only 0.2mm depth of cut per pass, so you'll understand why they took about 4hrs each to make!

    :eeek: Stunning.

You want to make some wheels for my RC car? Saying that, they would probably cost more than the car.

I am in the process of finding/buying a new lathe, a bit better suited to cutting out the wheels. Once I have it, then I will be making them to sell. If you want more info, then get in touch off-list.

It's nice to see that the rc bug has bitten you! I am currently repairing my 1/8th Kyosho inferno 6.5 after a full throttle incident with a parked car and reciever battery pack disconnection... I taco'ed the 3mm aluminum chasis, broke the front bones, sploded my fuel tank, tweaked my servo tray(also alum) that in turned filleted my servos and finialy, snapped my carb and broke a front lower a arm.... Sadness is... :waah:
Sorry If I hijacked this but I just wanted to join the spirit of the ot subject!
BTW, the car was doing 65+ when it hit! (it has a Pico .21 with pipe!)
Now to take the dremel to it and be a mean mother modder!
Now back to our regularly schedualed thread.
