What is the best motherboard to use when overclocking an 2500+ mobile? I don't need any of the other fancy items (ie...RAID, SATA, onboard video, onboard firewire, or any other things they tend to charge more for). I just want one that I can change all aspect of everything! Change the multiplier, FSB (Ultra 400), and all the voltages! I wanna overclock EVERYTHING....memory, VGA, and processor! Thanks~!!

I think what you're looking for is the DFI Infinity...

Is there anything that doesn't have the expensive extras? (ie. SATA, RAID)?

sata is on almost every board now, you'd get more of a performance boost buy getting a sata HDD then o/cing...

    NF7

the NF7-S has SATA & RAID

    read the specs

and a lot of the high end boards have the extra features, the lower end do not

(i have nf2 boards with, and without sata)

True, but the DFI Infinity/Lanparty line are better overclockers than the Abit NF7/-S line, the Infinity is the "feature-lite" version and happens to have 4 SATA channels, you don't have to use them ;)

Oh, and :hehe: @ TMM, you're priceless :p

Ok...I have looked into the specs, and I notices that DFI Produces 3 boards that look very similar. Is there a performance difference between the "LANPARTY NFII ULTRA-B", the "NFII ULTRA INFINITY", and the "NFII 400-AL"? It seems like the only differences between the ULTRA-B and the INFINTY is that the ULTRA-B doubles up on a lot of rear ports. (But why would I really need 2 RJ-45 if I only connect to 1 network anyways...) But i have no way ok knowing the extent of the tweeking allowed in BIOS. IF you could lend me some info, I would appriciate it!

for some reason a lot of the nf2 boards have 2 100mb lan connectors on, run by different chipsets, rather than 1 gigabit port. The AL version compred to the infinity is the same comparison as the NF7 and NF7-s, the s and the infinity being the better ones, due to the mcp-t southbridge gving soundstorm etc...

I would go for the infinity of the lanparty, depending upon your tastes.

The Lanparty Ultra B and the Infinity are identical as far as overclocking goes, the only differences are the Gigabit, onboard power/reset switches, the funky colours and extras on the LPB. The Ultra-AL is a vastly inferior board, it's based on the old Lanparty A and is hugely cut-down. The original Lanparty A wasn't a very good clocker, and the Ultra-AL is worse.

This image might help in sorting you out, basically don't go for the AL as it's much worse and doesn't clock anywhere near as well.

The Lanparty has gigabit networking as well as the standard 10/100 that comes with the MCP-T.

Ok...I am kinda...well, very new to overclocking, and I was wondering if I will be able to kick the FSB up to 400mhz, if it is only a 266mhz fsb chip?

How much of a difference will it make if i buy the real expensive 2x512 ram, or the $160 2x512 ram? I don't plan to do anything crazy with this because I cant afford to replace it, but i want it to perform well, and very stablely!

maybe i should have shut my trap
    :grr: :nono:

i kinda meant it would be more useful to have some SATAs then some crappy ide (like me) becuase day to day use my hdd pisses me off (slow), no matter how much i O/C.

all the time my HDD is loading like a mofo and my CPU is just sitting there...

no doubt O/Cing speeds your comp up, but you should spend equal cash on fast hdds as well as Good overclocking stuff
