I took a look at the Sparkle 5900XT, and pitted it against a 9800SE which softmodded to 9800PRO, as you will see, the 9800PRO sees off the competition no sweat :)

    w00t??

    holy thread revival batman!!

my geforce 3 is really starting to get a bit sluggish now and voltmodding it doesn't sound too hopefully (core and mem voltages cannot be addjusted independantly of each other and at stock asus have 2.5v chips at 3.3v!)

    so i came to the connclusion of a 5900xt or a 9800pro then i :search: naturally :D

i'm not bothered about getting a big bundle of games/software with it, hardware is most important. I'm aiming on spending something like £150 and the card is to tie me over till next year, summer at the latest, i wanna be playing hl2, doom3 etc... at up to 1152/1024 res with a nice blend of aa and af if poss. Oh and also... i would like something that overclocks nicely too, see if it can beat the +40% i squezzed out of my gf3 :D

my choice for the 5900xt is the gainward 1100xt golden sample which is about £130-150. It gets points for asthetics imo :D

but i'm not sure about the 9800pro, i've read they can be flashed to an xt but only the 256mb pros but if anyone can find any of those in my price range then please say.

these are the 9800pro brands/prices i have found so far:

    sapphire 128mb £141-komplett
    connect 3d 128mb £129-microdirect
    ati 128mb £137-microdirect
    powercolor 128mb £135-tekheads
    gigabyte 128mb £158-overclock
    msi 128mb £162-dabs
    hightech 128mb £149-ebuyer
    hightech iceq 128mb £176-scan
    hightech iceq 256mb £233-ebuyer
    hurcules 128mb £117-ocuk
    club3d 128mb £154-tekheads

from lots of searching today it seems the 9800pro is slightly faster and will also have better iq, but i really need opinions from anybody on this one tho :D

You can get an OEM version of the 9800 Pro for £125 inc delivery at www.lowestonweb.co.uk (Evesham's online branch) ;) And yes, I'd personally go with the 9800 Pro every day of the week :D
