Cooling A bit of a David & Goliath

Just had the chance to run the new Danger Den Laing Pump up against the Eheim monster 1260 and it didn't do to bad.

OK, a simple test to see how long it takes each pump to fill a 5lt container.

Looking at the 2 pumps side by side you would think the Laing wouldn't have a chance but its got to be said this pumps got attitude and puts up one hell of a fight.

Eheim 1260 = 20 seconds
DD Laing = 23 seconds

I know you will probably think i am biased on this which i am to a degree but i would never recommend something i would not feel comfortable using myself so here is my honest opinion on the noise issue.

When i first powered the Laing up i thought well its not to bad, (more of a high pitched humm) then once the water had filtered through it got more and more quiet and once i had stood it on the dense foam base pad it comes with it became well within what i would say is acceptable and would have no problem running these in any of my machines.

The power and size of these tiny things is awesome.......plus they are 12volt which will appeal to a lot of people

That thing would woop a 1260 once you put the heat issue in the equation.

(i need 2 of these but dont have £100 to spare!)

Have you got any info on running them higher than 12v? are thay not rated for 24v or something. I would luv to have one (or 2 ) on a rheo!

 

is that the 3/4" barbed version? - and if so is that what you stock?

 

It says 1/2" Noryl Hose Barbs on the box!

As you can see from the first pic the Danger Den hose just pushes straight on to a nice snug fit..........probably get away with out hose clamps TBH but i'm not a big fan of that i must admit.

I haven't really had time to try the voltage out..........i just hooked it up to a 12v PSU but no doubt i will be experimenting at some point as i think they go down to 6v also.

just looked bigger than the eheim's barbs... must be the camera angle (or my eyes..) they look nice smooth barbs to put a clamp on...

i must admit i'd be sorely tempted, if i hadn't just got something (or should that be things) altogether more excessive...

Can you test the head on both pumps, or would it be too high to test yourself?

That looks damn cool, so if it beats the 1260 lol at the 1250 hehe . Tiny thing too by the looks of it.

Ocshoot.no is doing a overkill project, using a oceanrunner 6500. It`s compared to a couple of eheims on this thread on ocshoot.no`s forum.

1300 Norwegian for the oceanrunner and at the same store the eheim 1260 costs 1200.

ocau forums has heaps of info on this little pump.
Cathar has spent ages playing with it.
at 7v it's near silent and 16v makes it loud.
