Had my poll card in the mail the other day, and was wondering

    a) if people were gonna bother voting at all.
    and
    b) just to see where bit-tech fits in the political spectrum.

I might go and vote green or for the ssp.

Alternatively I might spoil my ballot- none of them are worth voting for, but if you just dont vote they think you dont care...

    Sam
ps in case you're all dumb like hazza :)D) the ssp are the scottish socialist party

    BNP

If their policy is to allow existing residence to remain, as i have no problems with existing Asylum seekers aslong as they do an honest days work but i think this country is desperately trying to populate a population spiralling out of control, we can't even find houses for our children so how on earth can we cope with an influx of Asylum seekers. I don't care if they're white, black, indian or bright orange, this country is full.

That is complete and utter bollocks, quite frankly.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of empty houses in the north.

Just cos a small part of the south of England is relatively densely populated doesnt mean the country is even near to "full"

You're kidding me? you've gotta be kidding? What do you read: Daily Mirror for your evidence? There are at least 10 fold more benefit fraud people out there who are uk citizens and its hardly an influx when you get thousands more coming into this country for education and work, way way WAY more than are seeking asylum. The housing "situation" is due to economic problems, inflation is low, job seekers are pretty low, i seriously dont know why people get so worked up. Compared to other countries we're not doing too bad.

Im standing by Uncle on this one - there are houses, abiet less desirable ones to live in but its not like i cant move when i leave my house. By all means layzeh you're entitled to your opinion but imo BNP is a tad over extreme.

You're going to cripple our economy. We need an influx of immigrants, Britain has a low birth rate, we're developing and earning more, but some jobs still need to be done. There is a lot of ****ty work that the average British citizen wouldn't touch with a barge pole unless they were really desperate, stuff like fruit picking, manufacturing boxes, packing magazines, all sorts of low pay, long hour junk. Immigrants fill these jobs without a second thought. Then there are the skilled trades, we're running out of teachers, electricians, plumbers, dental technicians etc. Immigrants from Eastern Europe can bring these skills into the country. In short we need these people to do the jobs we don't want to do, they provide the infrastructure for us to expand the top of the economy. Think of it as a pyramid, the higher you want to go the more you have to have at the bottom. The papers sensationalise the immigrant problem an I am surprised that the politicians haven't hauled them over hot coals for it. These a lot of rubbish printed by the media, papers like the Daily Mail, Express, Sun, etc kill me, I can't believe they get away with that stuff.

If you want a decent job when you get older then you're going to need people to pump your gas, stack your groceries, teach your kids, childmind. Immigration will be a boon to this country if Labour can sort the economy out to cope with it :hip:

Actually, IMHO the only reason to vote for the BNP is if you are in fact a racist.

The Conservative party aren't exactly keen on Asylum seekers either...

I don't know whether to be highly amused or concerned at what LayZeh said...

this country wouldnt function without immigrants. if you look at the ACTUAL figures, rather than tabloid crap, the UK has a very low amount of asylum seekers compared to the rest of europe.

and uncle hit the nail right on the head too, you can go and buy whole streets up north for the same price as a house down here in the overcrowded south. i should know, a friend of mine's family DID it!

anyway, i bet asylum seekers work a damn lot harder than most people from the UK, and if we make the rights of immigrants (legal or not) pay the same as UK citizens, then those companies making profit from hiring cheap-to-employ immigrants will have no reason to, and there will be less work for those who are illegally in this country.

Sadly, the government does not allow asylum seekers to work until they [the govt] has accepted their application for asylum. One of the reasons there is so much exploitation of immigrant/asylum seeking workers is because they WANT to work but the government won't let them- hence they end up working illegal and ****ty jobs... :-(

The north Irish can't vote? Are you serious?? Can someone explain this to me?

Also, do you guys still have the communist party? I think that's the way to go if you don't want to vote. I always say, if you don't wanna, do the thing that'll get the most government eyes watching :p

Thing is, the Tories don't have a great reputation either. Thatcher truly ****ed this country...

Mind you, tbh "new labour" is basically the "acceptable" face of conservatism these days anyway!
