actually i'mma go against the flow on this one and say use the first one. your mdf won't conduct heat like a metal case and you'll need as much airflow as possible (unless you're watercooling and didn't tell us). and as posted above, if you don't need external 3.5 bays, don't put them in.
UPDATE, Been busy today, nice weather!!! Finnished fan holes, and cut drive bays and routed, still not decided on the colours yet though WHITE OR BLUE??? My workspace!! Drive bays cut and routed The drive balnks in there final positions, will look nearly like this at the end? Now this is were i get stuck whether to go with the white theme or the blue theme? Iv tryed both colour fans, but cant decide may il have the whit with blue highlights? Hears some pics of both? With the lcd in, (notice how they both give the halo effect as described in the thread earlier form the lighting up of the LCD, is more apparent at night but will give an awesome effect when i can get some night shots!!) I LOVE IT!! Sneak preview of case Opinions pls, pls, pls
I was planning on making a wood case as well the only problem was I only wanted 1 panel coming off of the case. (making it look like a speaker sub box)But that was the problem how do you secure your Drives in with only 1 side exposed. Anyways it looks great. Good luck with the rest of it
Ya definately go for the white! And if you can, get some white LEDs to replace the blue ones in that LCD<--would be awesome. Nice project and great craftsmanship! Keep it up!
I think that is a fantastic idea! The blue and the white really look nice together. It would be a shame to go one way or the other, so I think you should combine the two. As far as the case goes, I think a nice light green would go very well with the blue and white. Or you could go monochromatic and just use various shades of blue throughout the whole thing. Both would look nice, in my opinion. -monkey
mmm that'd look good or do them diagonal to eachother for better mixing of color.... but i must say that desoldering/working with fan LEDs is a pain in the butt, i've taken the bloo ones off an antec 3 LED 80mm and the thing they're attached to (somewhere between a thin pcb and flat wires) is rather brittle. good luck if you do decide to do that, it'd look awesome
