Okay Ive built my SN45GV2 with SamSung 160GB Spinpoint drive and a Pioneer DVR-A05.

XP3200 400fsb chip and one stick of Geil Golden Dragon ram.

All boots up okay and can get into CMOS where it recognises hard drive and dvd burner.

Set so boots cd-rom first then hdd (Ive no floppy)

Put windows XP home in drive and boot

DVD light does not come on and after a while an Nvidia boot exe appears on screen but no hdd or dvd light for access

(both lights appear during initial boot check)

Any advice on what the problem is.

HDD is currently set as master on pin setting (on IDE1)
have tried dvd on both master and cable select (on IDE2)

Help is greatly appreciated I need this machine for a LANparty tomorrow

    Okay Ive sorted this one.

Got a dodgy cd cable. Seems to have been snagged in several places and has wiring showing.

Replaced with a spare rounded cable and works okay. only problem is my rounded cable is a 60cm one.

will have to get a new cable sent out

Shuttle has been rather notorious for thier "Factory rounded" cables being useless as many are damaged from the factory.
Glad you figured it out rather quickly. :)

I tell you it had me panicked after spending all this money (incl 17" tft) that it was going to need sending back and I'd miss playing UT2K4 tonight.

Mind you after sorting it all out and getting the O/S installed and Unreal and BF1942 and BFVietnam it was 3am when I got to bed.

No idea how Im going to last out tonight

    LOL
i find 60cm cables are the perfect length for my shuttle - its jus enough to go from the ide channel, up and round the side of he case and neatly into the hdd/cdrom
45's cant do that and ive tried me old 90cm in it, and it barely fits :D

Well it was after 4am when I finally got home from playing UT2K4 and Desert Combat.

    Have used a 60cm cable for cd-rom.

Wonder why you cant buy a cable which has only 1 connector? In terms of reducing cable mess, Im only going to have my dvd-burner on that ide channel so why the second connector?

I same goes for when I had a tower and midi tower, yet all the cables are made for connecting 2 devices.

    Something to ponder...
