Aye, it would have made a cool puter case.. I took a picture of the insides back whenever.. It's almost perfect height and everything.

But, as I'd not even heard of the concept of "modding" it went on to a better place.. :duh:

Gawd, looking at it, it's like.. begging to have pc bits thrust unto it!

I like the way it turns the green plexi a light turquoise colour, the light manages to get behind the metal brackets too, which i wasn't expecting :)

Also, whilst i'm here, can anyone inform me which pins need to be shorted on an atx power connector to get it to fire up? I had to take these pics using an old puter to get the PSU to turn on, and cos it had no memory made an awful point of complaining about it!

    Smallll update:)

    Hey, long time no mod!

Things have been super stressy with Uni, and not being at home has made it super difficult to be doing anything much with the case.

But none the less, i did a small bit of stuff, namely motherboard mounting:

I decided to ditch the idea of using the motherboard tray, since it would look butt ugly and I couldne find anything fun to put in the window to hide it. soo..

Pretty simple stuff/ drilled tapped some holes for the screws, 20 mm brass tube spacers over the top. lovely.

Modelling the lovely donor P133, used as a template..

View from outside. Doesn't look too bad, looks super techy either way. Maybe a light squashed in between the mobo and the window would look flashy...

Yup, I have indeed seen Piloux's Dark Crystal!

It's a pretty fantastic job, and I doubt I can create anything that remotely compares to his work!

My project is quite different however, Piloux went for the super slick matt black speed machine type look, whereas i'm for the shiny wood and aluminium stylee.

    least thats the plan..

*blows off the page 5 dust*

Well it's been a while since a post, but fear not young readers, for I am still venturing on with this project!

    Venturing indeed..

This week i are mostly been doing this:

I made a paper template for the front panels. These will be made from Aluminium, along with the obligiatory vandal resistant switch :hip:

I added the hinges for the door on the front of the case, and made a cute lil knob to open it, using bits salvaged off the hifi pictured earlier..

Here, a close up of the hinging mechanism.. not much to it really, just some machine screws cut short and drilled/screwed into one side and left to freely swing on the door piece.

But why would u want a crappy door on the front anyway? weel..

I think, with a cleverly located USB cable, it would be a handy shelf to place a camera/mp3 player whilst connected to the puter.

I'm also thinking about putting a small microswitch inside the case that would be triggered when the door was opened, and thus turning on a light to illuminate the shelf area. might be handy when trying to put cables in, in the dark :)

    Aussi..

I replaced the screws in the side with some SS cup washer's and countersunk screws. They seem to set off the wood much nicer :)

Gonna start cutting the aluminium frontage shortly.. hopefully I shouldn't butcher it tooooo much :worried:

I love seeing the love and the respect modders give to one another, as an ex pro-skateboarder, I really miss that. I am glad to be a part of another community that feeds off of their peers.

Wow.... a life story, I can't wait to spend the next 4 years reading about it and then going out into the back yard to hang myself.

Day 32, and I haven't gotten past the first page yet. But the shape for the case looks cool and if you have started building it already, I can't wait to see it.

    Hmm....maybe I sould build a time machine.

EDIT: Ok, got to the end and it looks real good, I'm just harrasing you dude. Nice job.

He took a picture, OF HIS CAMERA!?1? :duh: It's a paradox.

On a serius note, I'm liking the mod so far, and I think the light behind the tray would be sweet.

    Metal cuttering

I done me a little metal sawering today. It's all cut out with a coping saw, and even though it only seems like a small area, it's actually pretty tough work trying to get a decent finish on the metal!

It's made me appreciate the work by the chaps making the custom aluminium cube's even more!

Anywhoo.. The bottom section, with test-fan fitting..

Note i've still got to remove the protective sheet.. and yet to find a 20mm hole inducing device..

here's how it looks so far, I've only jus shaped the top part (still needs cd rom hole cutting out)

and again with lights.. jus for kicks ;) I've got a little red LED pointing at the fan to give it a little purple highlight.
