They did well to get where they are, hopefully a mix of Beckham missing a penalty and Rooney doing so well will help shift a lot of media coverag over. Althogh I can pretty much guarantee most the tabloid press will have a pic of beckam full front page with "Missed" as the title. Be happy you've got a rugby win under your belts for now, I don't thing the British Ego could handle been on the top of two worldwide tournies.
I didn't see the match, I listened to it on the radio- but the thing is that if theres any sort of contact with the keeper then the ref will give the goalie the benefit 9 times out of 10. Anyway, discussing it is irrelevant now, cos there aint much that can be done about it! Cheers Sam
Mate that'd be "English" not "British"...you'd think someone in Wales wouldn't make such a schoolboy error And "worldwide"? Its the European championships matey Sam
<DISNEY> Its a small small world la la la la lah</DISNEY> Yah but you get the point Acctually, after reading some of the highly tensioned threads on a different forum I can guarantee that either The Sun or The Star tomorrow will have the headline "CHEATED" (which is bollox) I'd bet a fortune on it.
I don't know if it's true or not, I read it on a footy forum: Reporter: Was Wayne Rooney disappointed to lose his youngest goalscorer record on Monday? David Beckham: No, it'll just make him even more determined to get it back against Portugal. Cheered me up a bit anyway.
Well, they did hold the goalkeeper (you can see an arm around his neck) and we did score a goal that wasn't accounted for too... In the end Sven just made the wrong choices (reminded me of italy) trying to hold the advantage. And it wasn't Beckham night... Still, we truly dominated, kept trying and fighting and deserved the final score. I have to say something too... I've never seen in a tournament like this a game where the spectators in the stadium were all mixed, no team/country sections. It's amazing and very pleasing to see all fans really enjoying the game!! Everyone loved it and everyone was cheering with peers and "enemies"... very well done! Everyone chanting hymns and singing...Congrats.
Erm, excuse me, hate to say this, but Scots are rarely neautral when it comes to England. Besides, the ref was toatally biased the whole match. Remember about halfway through when an England playe was booked, yet 2 minutes later a Portugese player committed exactly the same offense, yet the only result was a free kick? Even Beckham complained to the ref at the time! Besides, near the end of the first (or second) period of extra time, remember when Beckham was shoved over the line by the Portugese player, deliberately obstructing and not going anywhere near the ball? Was he booked? Was he punished? Did the ref seem to be able to SEE TWO FEET IN FRONT OF HIM UNLESS IT WERE ENGLAND MAKING A MISTAKE? Was Hitler sane? And looking closely at the replay, there was no foul. That last-minute goal was fair. Just out of interest, if anyone knows, if there is serious cause for concern over judgements made by a ref, what is done about it? Can the England team appeal to EUEFA or whoever?
No offense mate, but if you aren't intersted, butt out and don't waste yer time! And there is no harm in discussing it...
Seconded! I wouldn't mind the team, etc. Just the el ****to flags and hooliganism completely ruins the ethos.
Yeah, are they bollocks like. I love you Fly. And Uncle Psychosis, feel free not to post anymore.. ever. That'd be great, thanks. Banned from what penski, the rest of Euro 2004? Oh noes.. the horror.
The Sun's headline is: YOU SWISS BANKER! That disallowed goal was a travesty. If only Collina had been in charge of that match.
couldent put it better the linesman put it as a Goal but the Ref just wasnt having it Can Anyone say biased ?
