Is it easy to remove the EL backlight from my LCD ?
What can I use instead - LEDs ?

I am fed up of looking for the correct spec inverter so have decided to find an alternate light source.

any inverter should work.. as long as it shocks the S :eyebrow: T out of you it should be ok

**I have used different/wrong inverters in laptop screens and had no problem getting them to light

I bet you could pick up a cold cathode case light and wire it up to the bulb in your screen

My backlight requires an inverter running 100V AC @ 500HZ if I recall correctly.
I daren't put anything different as
    A) I don't want to knacker the light and
    B) I have no idea what specs for my cold cathode inverter are - altohugh I could multimeter it I suppose.

    I think you mean 110V 50Hz.

    I would use LEDs.

No, he was correct in saying that it should be 100V 500Hz.

I think farnell sell inverters, although they're slightly on the expensive side :sigh: . Part number 521-125

I have given up trying to source one in the UK.
They are far too expensive hence I am wanting to rip the s**t out of it and light it by some other means.

just don't try to measure the inverters with a multimeter... it might damage the multimeter (to high voltage)...

you COULD use LEDS, but the light won't be specially even if you don't use some sort of diffuser under the LCD, wich will be a bit difficult...

I'd try to get an inverter instead...

The specs call for 110V AC 500Hz

    Voltage is +- 20V
    Max is 1KHz

If someone could help me design one that would run off computer voltages I would be very grateful.

i actually tried this with a half decent multimeter that was good for 750v ac but there was serious sparkage so i though sod that !!

I measured an inverter I have with my multimeter and it measured it fine.
Its 2.3KHz though :sigh: so that one is no use to me :waah:

Any UK modding shop that sells EL stuff with the included inverter. Any EL inverter will work. Theres a good range on those.

Just stay away from CCFL inverters. Anyone saying that they will work has no clue.

    General specs for EL: 90-130VAC @ 100-400Hz

    General specs for CCFL: 300-1000VAC @ 30k-80kHz

Big difference. Here in the USA we can power EL right of main lines. Its not as bright though, but a good test.

Well the ones I have seen and the one I got outputs at way above my 1KHz limit.
