when you configure 2 physical harddrives to run in RAID 0 striped, do they show up in the OS as one hd??? in other words, windows explorer would display it as one hd directory? ex. C: or D:
another question...would it be possible to copy my entire harddrive (2 partitions) onto the 2 drives that are in raid? so in essence i would just be able to convert my single drive setup into a raid setup?
Turning a single drive into raid would not work becuase it kills the whole idea of RAID. RAID is used to either improve performance, provide redundancy, or do both. By using 1 drive RAID is not possible since you cannot stripe data across two drives, mirror it on two drives, or both
Hi all, You need a minimum of two drives to make a RAID array in RAID 0 and RAID 1 Three are required to make a RAID 5 array. Take care...........
AAAARRRRRRGHHH!!!! i know this!!! I am saying...for example.... I have my one drive now (we'll call it drive C) I set up 2 drives in RAID 0 striped so that "Partition Magic" or a similar program sees it as 1 drive (we'll call this drive D) would it be possible for me to copy drive C onto drive D???...thus, converting a single drive system into a raid system????
Hi, I was going to answer your question, but you screamed at me. Take care......... PS..........Yes you can. After makig the RAID array, use Ghost or PQDI to make an image, then restore it to the new "drive". I do not mind being screamed at, I am married.
I was wondering, since were talking about RAID, is there a way to clone a RAID array? I have Ghost and on Symantec's site, it says 2003 can't clone arrays. Under some circumstances it can, but not necessarily. I don't know about 2004 but maybe other programs? Any ideas?
I do it all the time using ghost 2003 no problems yet mind you I do it partition by partition rather than the complete drive.
So Ghost sees the arrays as 2 drives? So I can make an image of both partitions, store them for safe keeping and later actually restore it and have my RAID fully working again?
