Update: 6-2-04 Here is the latest update. I finally got my custom Mousepad in from koolpcmods.com. It looks pretty cool. It is 1/4" plex with white LEDs coveredn in ratpadz mousepad stuff. I sent them the artwork to cut and told them what size. I gotta admit I thought it would be thicker and have a border like the normal lit mousepads. but it still is pretty cool. Here are the pics.: I also skinned my monitor as a short term solution until I can get around to building the acrylic case for it. I didn't include pics becouse I wasn't to happy with the results. I will just update when done. I know everyone is ready for this mod to be finished, including myself. All I can say is have patience. It is close. Happy Modding.
I had the same idea a while back for the glowpad but never got to it. Great job though. I'm a fan of the UT series myself. I live in Texas too!
OK, we had a couple of events that took place that required me to modify the case: The first one being that the Shuttle PSU couldn't handle the load or whatever it just started getting buggy. So I needed to add a new PSU. The problem being that it has only a little more room than a Shuttle's PSU. Luckily for me there was a little headroom. I ended up taking apart an Antec smart blue 350 and putting it inside this baby. It was a major operation because I had to rewire a couple of things and get everything to fit just right. here is the final result from that. Due to space restrictions I also had to add the exhaust fan on the outside on the back. I even had to "borrow" ZapWizards Idea of using a Mic XLR connector because the standard plug was to bulky for the tight space. The second thing that happend was I won PC Unleash.com's mod contest which got me a Poseiden Mini WC kit. I thought it would look cool in the UTMod so I decided to install it while I had the whole thing apart. I had to make a new hole up top for the exhaust. While I was at it a made another for the Video card. I am thinking of upgrading it to a 9800pro and it is going to need a fan or something. Here are the new holes. The Posieden kit with a Smartfan II added on Here is the Temp install. After I due some more temp testing I will put the res between the HD and the Radiator. It is just sitting on the ledge right now. Well thats it. Hopefully my next update will be the LCD in a new plex case. Barring any other component failures.
Looking good. Did you use the correct XLR jack, or is is dangerous like mine? (I used a male jack for the cable end, instead of a female plug) Will you be at QuakeCon? There is also an AMDZone event this weekend I think, but I may only be there for a few hours.
It is the Dangerous kind. I was going to do it the other way but it would have taken up to much space. Hopefully it won't kill me. I am signed up for QuakeCon and I want to go but I am like 1200 something on the list to get my comp in. I hear that a lot of people get in but..... Is the AMDZone thing at LANsEdge? What going on? Is it their regular monthly LAN Party?
Final Pics Well, I think I am done. Sure I might upgrade my video card, processor and ram but who doesn't now-a-days. What I mean is I think I am finished modding this SOB. I was going to do an acrylic case for the LCD but I am just ready to move onto another project. So I just painted it silver to match the case and KB. Took some final shots and hopefully the new website will be up soon (crossed fingers). So here are the final pics. there are lots more but I didn't want to put them all here. When is TXGF in Dallas? Tie, location, all the good stuff? I'm in Arlington and I want to go to one of these things soooooo bad.
It will be august 7-8. here is a link to the info. Dallas It was a lot of fun (once the CS guys left) and I won this as a prize for the Mod contest(minus the window), Mmmmmm something new to Mod. It was nice finally meeting everyone, Zap, Kestrel, Mr. Red, and some new peeps. It was also nice to show off my mod in person too.
