A Metal Halide lamp would also give a nice white light

Speaking of Luxeons... Has anyone had a Luxeon die on them for no reason? I was testing a 1W white a few minutes ago, and it suddenly went out. It appears to be totally dead :waah: :( I was running it off 12V, with ~160-ohms resistance, which should give an LED current of around 55mA, certainly not enough to blow it :eyebrow: Must have been faulty?

Ouch that must have hurt :waah: . Did you use higher wattage (1+) resistors? 1/4watts won't do...

    Was it heatsinked properly?

It was running on 1/6th of full current, so it wasn't even beginning to get warm (without a heatsink) :(

coorz: Thanks :D I'm using this avatar on a couple of different forums at the moment.

I was using 3x 470-ohm 1/4Ws in parallel, which gives around 156 ohms. They were barely getting warm.

I've come to the conclusion that the LED must have been faulty, I could run a standard 5mm LED on that voltage/current without burning it out! :/
