Hey All Im thinking about getting a shuttle, The PSU which comes with the shuttle is only 200W. Can I run a 80GB HD, CDROM, 3 120mm Fans, x800 Graphics Card off a single 200 PSU? IF not, What you guys and gals suggest for a shuttle PSU wise? Is it possible to run 2 seperate PSUs? ( 1 dedicated to the 120mm Fans, 1 dedicated to shuttle) Thanks heaps =) Mod it up
shouldn't be a problem. if you're buying a new shuttle try getting the latest version. then you might get a silentx 250w psu with it i would try it with the 200w psu and if it doesn't work buy a silentx 250w
i agree with kaZuo, but more importantly, how the hell are you gonna fit 3 120mm fans in a shuttle!?! RoB
I agree with everyone else (I own a shuttle myself. Good choice ) If you do run into a power issue, I might suggest an external psu altogether (its a frequent mod for shuttles, it cuts sound down to nearly nothing). Otherwise, if you want two psus, your gonna have to "hot wire" the second one. Look at the atx plug. See the one green wire? Splice that with a black, or ground wire. That way it doesnt have to be plugged into a mobo to give power I'd love to see this mod when your done with it, keep us posted EDIT - switched cpu with psu thanks for the correction
when he says "CPU" he means PSU. The 250w should be plenty of power. Dont run the fans off of the motherboard headers, or odds are you will kill them
You know, its really amazing that I made that bad of a typo. I fully understood he ment PSUs, as my text can tell you, but I typed cpus both times.
As much as I want to do a Half Life 2 PC... I cant... There is too many of them.. They all rock but I always been a DooM person .. I already drawn up the plans for it.. No rust for me... Can a shuttle hold up a 19 CRT inch moniter on top of it? Cause If it cant, I thought of making a custom moniter holder...
I still come across people who call the case the CPU Even some basic computer guidebooks still refer to it like that. Just on a slightly related topic...Shuttle PSU's are standard in every way except for the size and shape right ? I've been thinking about using one in a mini-server mod I've been planning.
They think it's an abbreviation for ComPUter, not central processing unit. /me hates ignorance I'm pretty sure the only PSUs on the market that don't fall into ATX spec are a couple of odd Dell ones (which I think are all but gone/standardized now anyways). So to answer your question, yes, the shuttle PSU would be "standard". My 19" CRT weighs in around 45lbs (20kg?) which is a good amount of weight to put on a small case. However if the base/stand would overhang and therefore hit the edges/frame part of the case, I would think it would be ok. I don't have a shuttle to test and I don't wanna risk crushing my EPIA which I don't think would fare so well (luckily it's only ~3" thick so not far to crush down...) You may end up ruining the finish if you put a monitor on top too, I'd imagine it would be quite easy to scratch it up. But why not just just mount the shuttle on top of the monitor? Much safer...
Maybe if you ask nicely I'll do a load test on my shuttle case As far as ruining the finish, that depends of which shuttle you get. Mine has a brushed aluminum finish, so its hard to mess up the finish unless its an intentional gouge. As far as the shuttle psu, yes it is a typical psu in all aspects, just smaller. A bit louder too, but only because of the 60mm fan.
wait wait wait my x800 take up 350 watts theirs no way u can do that (so i bought a 550 watt psu) how can u run that comp with only 250 watts
No it doesn't. ATI suggests a 350w PSU to run one, not said it takes 350w to run it. I think it's somewhere in the 70-90w range at full load. Well maybe if it's overclocked by about 400% it takes 350w
I have a 80 gb raptor, a 9800 pro XT and 2 80mm high flow panaflows, a c-sytems pump and a dvd burner....with the stock PSU. It can take it.
