Er, somehow I missed the entire point of this thread, the fact that we'd been talking about the rip-offness of the V9999GE, and the fact that the vote didn't say GT at all. Time to get sleep, methinks ;)

/me changes vote to X800, but vs. a GT the above still applies :p

Well upon looking at it, the price for the GT I want is going to still be $6USD less than the 6800 mentioned in my original post - so just consider it the GT I guess. :p

I vote ATI. But honestly, if you are running to high end cards like this, the performance is going to be unbelievable. nVidia openly admits the x800 is a good card, and vice versa. Its personal opinion, there both raw gaming cards, top of the line, with performance differences the human eye can barely see.

Some genius please tell me the answer!!

    Also.. while we're here.
I have some numbers on the kind of power usage for the cards, tho not for the X800 pro any ideas?
But what about temperatures... which one runs hotter?

I won a 6800GT at QuakeCon, and have been running it since.

It's a great card by any standards.
But for some reason I miss the ATI X800 that was in the Demo PC.
It just felt smoother on the games I play (Battlefield and others)

So I am still going to get a X800 XT PE sometime.

The reason the X800 feals better is because the architecture is optimized to run older games like that. It is actually giving you smoother gameplay on the games you play. However, an XT PE is probably not a very good idea IMO, reason being that in newer games, and especially Doom 3 (which Im sure about two million games are going to be using its engine) doesnt run very well on R400. NV40 works much better, as anyone will tell you. Future games are going to work much better on NV40 as it is optimized to run next generation games; older games will still run better on R400, but in the new ones, it is evident that NV40 will own it. Subsequently, spending so much on the X800 XT PE essentially means you are only buying into superfast framerates for older games which are soon going to go on to the wayside. I would save your money for Nforce 4 and SLI if I were you Zapwizard. :D

    <--- NVidia

iv seen like 3 people imply that the GT takes up 2 slots (which it doesn't thats only the ultra) so scrap that argument. and if you don't have the available power requirments im sure it wouldn't be to hard to mod a DC adaptor for the thing (correct me if im wrong here). anyway PS 3.0 and all those beautifull pipeline get my vote. now go get the GT and post some OC numbers ehh?

The GT will beat the X800pro in mosts test because of the lack of piplines of with Pro, but the XT will beat the Ultra in high res, AA/AF tests.

you had better check your facts mate

actually with recent driver revisions, in most cases there are no differences and in some the advantage is to nVidia

There is currently a texture shimmering bug in a couple of games when Anisotropic Filtering is enabled on a GeForce 6800 series, but it depends how close you look. ATI's Anti-Aliasing is far superior to what NVIDIA can currently offer, whereas NVIDIA's Anisotropic Filtering tends to be better - at least when there is no texture shimmering.
