I reckon the first thing I'm going to ask when I'm looking round universities is "what speed can I download stuff at?" :D

    Also, what exactly is JANET?

I found this: "JANET is the UK's education and research network. It is a private, government funded network." so it's basically a network between educational institutes to provide high-speed net access?

Pfh JANET is old you want Super JANET.

A freind of mine set up an ftp site on a PC at a Cambridge College and ended up racking up over 200GB of transfer that night.

But JANET/Super JANET is fast. 10 GBPS some of the links are.

Sod super Janet and Janet, just get Level3, Mistral, Abovenet, and whoever else to run feeds into your brain :) that would be the best thing.

Hopefully we will all soon evolve with RJ45 connectors behind our ears

I graduated from there last year, didn't stay in the halls or that, so I can't really comment. I now work for another University in Glasgow, with JANet piped into my desk, which is nice.

I've pulled ~500K/s at my school, I was using DAP to download some 3d-model, nothing good :blah: If I could find some way around that damn filter I could have some real fun.

Bah, you're all very lucky... my school's internet sucks, and for some stupid reason they pay > $200 a month for it (1-way, 256k down satilite). My $50 a month ADSL is better in every way. :D

Work is ace if I go in on a sunday. Usually during the week a

"net view" command will scroll for about 20 seconds. Do it on a sunday and about 200 computers will show up, most servers, and a few "leave on's"
Get some fabulous speeds, will try doing a screenie next time. Usually starts a bit slow then just fires accross :D

I thought you would have gotten better down there in NM. Assuming that's a university connection and not a public library connection.

My university connection was awsome, 100Mbit/s. I downloaded some drivers at 6MB/s from Creative.com. That was my top speed, I orgasmed seeing those numbers :p .

Phat: You should change your little title from BigGut Mod to "I am the queen of France" (to go with the Avatar)

Not for me. Creative always has excessive bandwidth when I download from them. *shrugs*

You could have bought yourself a nice 12dBi yagi / parabolic antenna for about £30 :)

    Free internet for life/a year/whatever for £30 :D
