    Hey everyone,

It's now drawing nearer and near to my birthday, and I'm looking at cars....

I really want a VW Camper van, but I'm not sure if it's possible to get a reliable one for under £1000.

Does anyone have any experience or advice?

    Cheers
    Andrew

Get a copy of Volksworld or something similar. Check VW forums.
Really, you should get the AA or someone to check an old car like this. But for <£1000 don't expect much.

    volkszone
and the samba (but that is an american one)

I assume you mean a bay, not a split... you *may* be able to find something that is vaguely solid, but I'm pretty doubtful to be honest.

I've just had a search through the sites that have been posted, and also ebay, and it doesn't look likely that I could get something solid. There have been a few for about 500, but these need restoration, I guess my dream will have to wait until I have more money.

But I still want an original early car, like a mk2 golf, or mk1 fiesta, a mini, something that is a little rare.

    ummm, fiestas and minis rare?...

but I know what you mean, that's why I got my bug. The least rare car in the world, but it *feels* kind of rare, if that makes any sense at all.

you're looking at about 2-3000 for a decent camper. 1500-2000 for somethign that needs work. more for something nice.

well worth it though mate :thumb:

I have a thought, I haven't considered how expensive the insurance is on these. Does anyone know?

for £950 you will probably be looking to spend the same again on sorting it out. Check the sills for rust and corrosion. If you know a bit about motors or have friends that do then it can be a laugh working on them ;) they're pretty user friendly and there is a pretty big enthusiast following who are usually glad to help out where possible.

The ultimate VW "Bus/Camper" has to be the Samba.
Its rather expensive because its a little bit rarer than the othres, Its got LOADS of windows, and if you couple a 911 engine to it, goes like stink :D

    Well I've bought a Renault Clio....for £200!!!!!!! :jawdrop: :D :D :D

Anyway, so I'll drive that till the wheels fall off, then by that time I might have enough money to fulfill my vw dreams.

ps.The clio is an M-reg (1995) 1.9L diesel, 5 door, electric windows, central locking, powersteering, is a pretty good car overall, but it has no stereo atm, so...... anyhow, It's arriving on thursday.
