I'm looking for a good nic card for my pc. The one that my cable modem hooks to it's old and I think it's slowing me since my Isp just uncapped their services I was looking for something nice that would allow me to receive full speeed down and uploads
Please post your links here on what you think is good. Thanks all

intel aint as good as 3com, as intel make cpus, mobo, and all kinda other crap....3Com only make networking stuff so they know best what theyre doing....thats why i reccomend getting 3com if you can afford it...

if u cant got with somethin like dlink or netgear....

id never by an intel nic as they make loadsa other stuff and dont concentrate on networking...

LOL tell all the servers using the intel server NICs, I have to look after over 400 pcs most with Intel pro 10/100 nics and the failure rate is fairly low like 5 in 2 years. The Intels are good performers but a bit expensive. For a small home network you really wont see to much difference, I would go for linksys or neatgear as they are cheapish and reliable.

Intel nics are not considered inferior to 3COM at all,

Intel and 3COM are the big 2 - they're both great quality.

and for quality on a budget, think Netgear.

Unless it's a netgear FA311, they are dire!

Personally I use Linksys 10/100 cards i'm i'm looking for 100Tx, otherwise old 3Com 309 ISA ones work with anything :) Intel and 3Com are the best, but for home/cable conenctions do you really need the slight speed increase you probably won't see?

Its a Gigabit NIC, great if you want to swap files on your home networrk @ 1048.5 Mbps. Overkill if you have got cable. 130 MB/s (somebody check my math) or 72 min cd in about 6 seconds....

if u get the gigabit one to fully utilise it ur other pc will need it aswell, or if u got more then 2pcs ull need a gigabit hub which is quite dear....

but if you got that kinda cash just go for fibre optic...:D  :cooldude:

I use both 3com and intel Nics. some 3com nics have alot of driver problems with windows 9x. The best place to buy 3com or intel network cards is on e-bay i picked up 10 3com 3c905b-TXM nics for £8 each they are £45 each in shops.

    So happy hunting !

dude if youre spending $50 on a nic you may as well go for a 10/100/1000 copper nic, they work on 32bit PCI bus
