Not much actual work lately, but I picked up a few more things for the project.

    1. Ugly green plastic vase from the local dollar store. This is for a sound-dampening tube for the 6-inch superfan.
    2. Cut the end off.
    3. & 4. Melted a tonne of holes with my soldering iron.

    Latest toy:

4 inch ABS piping for the internal duct for the superfan. Going to aim it at the mobo.

Steel box from a garage sale. This will be a big door on the side case. Opening it will expose a storage area for my games.

Basic black inkpad from work. This will be my "front door" on the case. Inside will be all my power and control buttons.

So thats about it today. I'll cut some panels tonight with the jigsaw or whatever.

    Slowly but surely.

Only got 3 shelves cut to shape tonight. Bottom and middle shelves will be "hollowed" out to lighten its weight, and the cut marked 45 degrees will be for the top twin 80mm fan exhaust. I'll finish the cuts tomorrow after work and post pics.

Sorry Prodigy, but I try not to make much noise in my apartment after 9pm. This is all i got done tonight. I know you're disappointed, but its the best I can do right now.

Have you ever had your neighbors bang on the walls or something when you're in mod mode? I also am forced to limit my noise making activities to during the day, because I figure I'm making an incredible raucous. No complaints yet, but I just wait for the day...

Roof has been cut. 3 layers of 3/4 inch particle board. I dont want to give too much away, but it will be Bondo'd to work out imperfections and painted to theme. (in the next few weeks)
Pics of it mounted on the case will be posted soon.

The angled cut is on the backside...
...is to accomodate the exhaust from the twin 80mm fans...

...whose blowholes will be cut at a later date. =)

Hey, I don't see any of your pics. Bad links perhaps? Fix them quick. Must see, must see.

    EDIT: Ah there they are!

I dont get that vase thing. How is that going to help lower the noiselevel ? I just looks like an airtrap to me. Cant see how its going to do any good.

It'll work like a silencer, I think, fouling the movement of the air and slowing it down.

I don't believe it'll do anything about the vibration based noise of the fins or the motor.

    Pics work for me.

The vase/tube will muffle the sound to some extent. I know it wont make it completely silent, but it should help. The noise from the fan is un-obstructed as it is. Having the fan mounted to a tube punctured with holes and wrapped in foam will absorb some of the soundwaves.
