Alright so here's the story; I'm in an A+ certification class at my school and we are in the pc servicing part of the course...its 2 school years long and we just started...well anyways we were reviewing the quizzes that we take after we complete an exercise. Well anyways on the psu quiz there was one question that said if you turn on an AT style psu without it connected to the motherboard, what will happen? A. Nothing Serious will happen B. The PSU will blow up C. You will get a boot error message Well the correct answer is the psu will blow up...according to heathkit and my retard teacher....hmmm gotta love the fact that i know more than the teacher that is teaching the class...i think there is something wrong here.
Never done it myself but i have herd the same thing from lots of people that AT psus dont like running with no load on them.
The thing is with all of the safety measures in place it theoretically wouldnt be able to blow up, its UL approved. So the UL wouldnt let it out on the market if its a possibility that it would blow up...
Rubbish, i've done it numerous times. I used an old AT PSU as a bench supply for electronics with no load on the motherboard connector. PSU's tend to misbehave if they are not loaded properly, I guess it could be a retarded reference to that. Just goes to show, time and time again... Computing + Education = BS
I'm with Acrimonious on this one as I too have an AT PS for a bench PS and nothing at all happens with it.
