News Official: No Wi-Fi for Grantsdale

    So first it was, 'Yes, it has wifi'. Then it was 'Yes, it will have wifi, only later'. Now it's 'Wifi? what wifi'. This from VNUNet:

    Intel has dropped plans to include integrated Wi-Fi in its 915G/P and 925X chipsets.

    The chipsets - formerly codenamed Grantsdale - were due to have Wi-Fi access points built in at launch. After they began shipping without the functionality due to hardware supply problems, Intel promised that the option would be included at a later date.

    But the company has now announced that it will no longer be building the functionality into its silicon, leaving users to rely on third-party add-on cards for wireless access.

    I thought wireless was in the southbridge (ICH6RW), but I guess not :hehe:

    No worries. If you really want the feature, just get a high end board. The Asus P5AD2 Premium has wireless G built in. And 2 sets of four SATA RAID ports, and 2 IDE RAID, and a host of other nice features.

    The W variety doesnt exist.. anymore.

    The MSI 925x board has 54G as an add in card too (expect review soon).
