A little article about routers and plexi. Not a real mod but could interest someone. http://www.metku.net/router/index_eng.html
Jumping Jesus on a pogo-stick! I don't know which is cooler, the ability to route such clean images or the multi-colored/multi-layered effect.....
Definately way cool! I tried that with a CO2 laser engraver and the results were very poor... too hard to control the laser temp on plexi. But the CNC looks like the way to go...
I did a quick search online... and the cheapest i found were $4-5K! I'm sure there are better deals out there...but since i'd rather not start a war with the better half I left it alone.
Can you vary the intesity of the color in the image, eg by making a deeper cut? If you could with the right train of thought and Red, Green, and Blue leds you can make a true color etch.
hahahaha suckers got one in my school....just used it to make a switch mount in plexi...perfectly spaced holes clean edges....and the one I have access to is BETTER!!! hahaha...sorry, had to say that and make you bitches cry, ya those things are cool, very hard to set up, well not engraving but when it comes to contouring and ****...wheew, way to much time...but great end-product....I like the drawings and ****, they look nice...
yeah, my senior year in HS my school got a computer controled CNC machine and CNC lathe.. i played with it a bit, milling some aluminum, but never plexi, then again, that was well before the 'its cool to see your computers guts' days when we hid our boxes.. how much did that rig cost ya.. looks pretty nice and stable.. I take it you use auto-cad to run it? scoob8000
It costed around 3000 euros. Program that is used to drive the machine is called PCNC. This is DOS based system so no Autocad. And it's not needed because this pcnc does the driving, you can do designing and drawing with any machine/software you like.
