OK the UV lights look ok the plexi i say put the frosted in the entire thing cuz that what the hypercube looked like, but at the same time i say keep them out so you can see the inside that you've worked so hard on. so it's 50/50 with me as well.
Hi guys, You're not making it easyer for me. I have to agree with the uv lights. They kinda look out of place. Ok it does look better in real life, but I didnt see UV lights in the film either... So I guess they have to go. I have to be a little consistent. About the plexi... I should be able to have both, but thats not an option. I'm gonna wait a little more to take the discission, its still 50/50 for me. greetz, Joungne
you should put up a poll for this kinda decision, IMO it looks better w/o the white plexi, gives the whole case more of a even flowing look. looks good either way, keep up the good work
Sublime stuff . Just a tip from me on your Luxeon, thermal epoxy a heatsink on it and get a 3watt resistor for it. 1watt will do but if you're gonna have it on for a long time, best to go for a 3watt resistor. Mod on kerel!
I agree - the UV lights look out of place. Is is possible to show a pic showing it with one type of plexi and one in the same position with the other? Of course I'd really have to see it in person but I'd end up stealing it I like the frosted effect but seeing the innards is cool too, especially with those hard drives and whatnot - that mounting system is amazing.
A small 40mmx40mm piece of sheet aluminium would dissipate the heat if there's no room above the luxeon. A large heatsink isn't required for these things. Also if running the luxeon from the 5V supply, the resistor is only dissipating just over half a watt, so the 1 watt resistor really is fine. No need for 3W.
Now that I will agree with! I really must read the project logs more, Im missing too many excellent cases.
high sweetness :> (eventhough it was about time ) btw those feet look kinda wierd, maybey make them a bit shorter?
i say scrap the white plexi in the front so that you can accuatlly see the work of art INSIDE, through faily good sized "windows" instead of just the little fan holes cause i don't know about you guys but i would want to be able the the craftmans ship that was used on the inside of the case, well that it's for me i'm done
Put white plexy it looks better than seeing the nasty green or red motherboard and stuff that doesn't work well with all the white. Oh and after looking through the pictures more and more I have changed my mind I acualy like the purple now it's a good contrast. Looks awsome.
Project HYPERCUBE² DAY 24 11/10/2004 DAY 24 Time for a little update. I got a lot of comments about the UV lights and the legs on the cube. I took all these comments into consideration and came to the conclusion they both had to go. I wasnt so shure about them myself. Guess I needed to warm up after my holiday. So I came up with something different. I replaced the UV lights with normal ultra bright white ones, and that'll have to do the trick. The legs are something different, you'll see an update of them further down the update. First I did some work on the Baybus. I made these 25mm round disks (4 in total) using the drill on the picture. They are coming behind the knob and should be lighted with one small led. They look something like this. I need to clean them up a little, but you get the picture. One led in place. I dont have a pic of the placement of the led. I drilled a 3mm hole just underneath the part (is it called a rheobus?) as high as possible. The led comes out nice behind the white plexi and the effect is ok Allready connected 3 of them and 4 switches with the leds above them. Now onto the feet. I found these round feet on an old pioneer reciever I got laying around. I dremeled out the insides of all the feet (left on the picture) You see where I'm getting at? Here you see the bottom side of the cube (In the middle the luxeon, and in the 4 stars 4 white leds. they were allready there, so why not put them to good use.) Then I made these 50mm plexi disks that will go under the feet. Now there are no connection with the ground on the sides off the cube and it seems like its floating, and light is coming out underneath it. This is a really bad picture, but just to show how it looks. In real life the feet are much more bright, but the camera focused on the luxeon... Next thing was the wiring under the MOBO. Here it is al in place and ready to be hooked up (the right in the picture is the front of the cube.) To finish off, a little test setup when I was working on the Baybus. Thats it for today. Its just a small update, I hope you liked it. Greetz, Joungne
