I thought long and hard about this and did a lot of research....

I wanted the Ultimate FanBus ... so of course I couldn't have PWM Speed Control I must have Linear Contol Of my fans ( so i would know the RPM of each fan ) I wanted full sync of the fans or at least varible contol of said fans ... decided i needed Variable contol of the waterpumps ( noise regulation and life extention ) Heat alarms and temp and i wanted programible GPO ... not to hard ehh .... well then it got even a little crazier ...

I also wanted feild inverion sensitivity ( no touch buttons ) and i wanted to be able to have IR remote ... what to do what to do

OH and as if this wasn't enuff I wanted it all programable and changable via the PC ( ya have to be able to set automated events right )

I worked with some of the best MS programmers i could find and a few Hardcore engineers ( ask me about my overclocked Xeon P4 2.2 DUAL 133 FSB )

well kids its a finished deal

    here are the specs

It will be finished in about 3 weeks

    16 GPOs
    16 Temp sensors ( ±3°C Temperature Accuracy (-40°C to +125°)
    16 Relay points
4 Intelegent Motorized POTs ( not really pots they are digital POTs)
    4 FI senors
    1 Graphic LCD
    CPU indepentant operation
    WIndows Compatible
    SMBus Interface

    Features

    Overclocking control
    Alarm reset
    Full intergation with OS
    ACPI compliant
    Overclocking Contols
    Memory Info
    CPU info
Able to drive Scripts with Either Events or Buttons

oh and BTW compatible with a HUGE range of Motherboards

now how do i interface it to the motherboard
well with some i just plug it into the SMBus Port and some i use a special SDRAM shim

The How and With what will be comming soon......

to wet your interest i will give you a few links to the Parts

and i am using a matrix Orbital Graphic LCD

Sorry for the misspelling i am very tired

I will be realeasing the Schematics soon but i warn you this thing has 6 regulators and over 13 ICs its not something you just go put together ( trying to find a way to make it upgradable and posibly modular )

Untill then ... i would like some ideas from you guys on a few things

    1) what features would you like to see added

    ya know that kinda ****

just let me know what ya think

    OH and

I forgot to mention one thing

In the CPU indendent state i Can only Get text on the LCD ( issues with PIC) in its CPU aware state ( basicly the LCD is taken contol of by the USB Connection and removed from the I2C chain) it has the ablity to do graphics.... I wanted a Better way but i couldn't find a PIC with that much Brains ... and then there is the cost factor

    ANy ideas

And is there a better PIC than the OOPIC for this Project

This sounds a very interesting and powerful piece of kit. Personally I think linear control of the fans is going to limit the units usefulness. I can see no reason for needing to monitor fan speed at the expense of using PWM control and the benefits it would bring. Fan speed monitoring plays no part in the control of temperature, noise etc so why bother monitoring it?

I don't want to appear negative and in fact I am looking forward to seeing the finished unit, but you asked for suggestions and mine is use PWM fan control. :)

I would suggest more fans, like twice as many.

Relix and I are working on a PCI project MP3 encoder/rehobus, and we have set very high standards (8 pots, 32 temp sencors. 32 function remote, etc. ) You can view the thread here.

What are you using for the FI circuit? FET?

    OH YEA ONE MORE THING

The reason i chose these sensors is because they don't require Chip on glass LCD Design ( a very expensive Option )

Ahhh.... I've seen circuits that did that. I never knew they put it into a 8-DIP.
