Why have they put an oil symbol next to the fill hole?

That's going to confuse a few car drivers. :worried:

lol I almost said the same in the review but then I thought there's no good reason that should actually be an oil symbol - I mean it's normally used for oil sure, but it shows liquid coming out of a can... ahh it's a cute little symbol.

Don't put oil in your WC system though, won't perform nearly as well as with water ;)

For Christ's sake, there must come a point where the motherboard can't hold such enormous weights! :jawdrop:

Well that review convinced me to put in an order for two of the Nexus heat sinks. :)

I saw that big feck-off Coolermaster heatsink on Saturday, when I popped over to PC World for some inkjet flush, and my reaction was the same as yours. It is HUGE, and I wouldn't want it hanging off my moboard. :eeek:

surely you could do some minor modding to that heatsink to remove that metal shroud and relocate it to make it s754 compatible?

Well I'm sure the problem isn't s754 specific - but you're right, you probably could. I wouldn't call it a 'minor mod' though, there'd probably be some cutting involved.

Anyway what's the point when you can buy similar designed coolers with better fans which don't have the same design problem, the TT cooler from the p4 round up springs to mind. :)

these heatpipe coolers are all well and good but don't they work better when the pipes are going vertically so gravity can pull the condensed liquid back down them again? Of course I mihgt be wrong but that is the way I have understood it.

Still never mind, until somehting comes out that beats an Alpha PAL 8045 with a 120mm fan on it I won't be changing in a hurry :D

They rely on capilliary action rather than gravity :)

As the little one said, it's not just gravity; this issue has been discussed in previous heatpipe cooler reviews. The bottom section of http://www.bit-tech.net/review/321/16 demonstrates quite clearly that non-vertical heatpipes really do work!

I can only speculate, I broke the TT unit reviewing it (drilled some holes into it to test the heatpipes), but I'd certainly side with TT:

    -lighter

    -better mounting system

    -better fan

I'd put money on TT winning on performance with its fan pointing towards the exhaust fan in a normal ATX case too.
