I've started using PowerDVD4 i think, old i know.. Put fast and the furious in, and it wouldnt play it, "unsupported format". Can anyone point me in the right direction to better dvd software, as i'm new to this and i don't want to admit defeat and go back to my tv
I've had a little more luck with Zoomplayer....I ran into the same situation as you are in, I had been using zoomplayer for a long time for divx and such, but never for dvd, then I got that same error while trying to play a dvd with PowerDVD... and in my searching noticed that the newer version of zoomplayer played dvds, gave it a try and it worked perfectly. I can't say if its the best or not, but it works pretty well for me.
Problem is that XP doesn't come with a DVD decoder because of some legal issue and I don't think that PowerDVD 4 has it built in. You need to find a more recent copy to install and it should work perfectly fine.
zoomplayer pro, sonic cinemaster codec (best 15$ i ever spent), and ffdshow. total dvd happiness, especially if you want to output to really hig resolutions. more here: http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=ffdshowdvd_1
