More news from Red China: Bill's "Glorious 3 Year Plan" with the Beijing Council has been ripped up after the Dictatorship (The Chinese Government that is, not Microsoft) found it to be contary to local dictats - sorry - procurent rules.

    This from the Inq:

THE CHINESE government has cancelled a $3.6 million Microsoft deal signed by Beijing Municipal Council because it broke the rules.

Microsoft was awarded the deal on November 17, which would have allowed the Beijing municipal government to use Vole's super soaraway software for three years.

According to the China Daily, here, the deal attracted the attention of the mandarins of the Chinese government.

The Chinese have a procurement law that says that domestic products and services should be preferred in government projects. The law came into effect in January last year, but for some reason was ignored in Beijing. Chinese companies, who have been very good at working out some cracking applications using Open Source software, were considerably miffed at being locked out by Vole and cried foul.

The fact that they were not even allowed to tender for the work has made the Chinese central authorities all the more concerned.

The paper said that analysts now feel that local software companies would now have be given a chance to bid for the contract and the mighty Vole will not be around to cause trouble.

Go China? Which is worse? A heavily armed communist country, opposed to the western way of life, with half the world population? Or microsoft? hmmm.... this could turn into another thread like the creationist one. You have valid arguements aganist both.

China evil XP versus MS evil XP

Well take it from someone who both works at Microsoft and has a chinese wife ... and has visited china many times.

All this will do for the Chinese is slow their economic progress. They want to participate in the Global economy but in reality all they are doing is enslaving themselves to Western Corporations much like the mexican goverment did 20 years ago.

The use of Open Source software has never helped a goverment progress in its goals. And the hard fact is that all this means is that the Chinese Goverment will continue to pirate Vole's software.

Sadly i feel this is a failure of the Chinese Goverment. They will continue down this "sony like" path until they end up with a Amiga like infrastucture...

And by the way..... China is not a Dictatorship but rather a Socialist republic ... that right folks ... The communist country that we all love to hate is no long a truly communist country. And trust me they are a lot more afraid of us than we are of them.

Bottom line to all of my rambling is .... you have 2 choices in this world these days .... participate in the global economy ... or become the USSR ....

Niether may seem like a good choice ... but then again ... what is the great evil .... a global ecomony ... or none at all. Remeber folks .... World Wars were not fought because of Social Progress ... but rather econmic ruins.

A great man once said; " He who has a life thats worth living has no wish to rally to arms. But he who has nothing in his life has nothing left but to rally to arms and find his worth in battle " - very badly translated ... sorry
