well... i look at my keyboard.... not the monitor, but if i stop lookign at my keyboard, i can still type more or less... it just feels awkward.
i got taught to type at primaery school. where there were red keys and green keys the red hand couldent touch teh green keys and vice versa. the only thing both hands can touch is the spacebar.
I just decided one day to try typing without looking and i could... yes it felt weird at first but its so much easier once you get used to it, and its easier to spot mistakes. I don't use the right fingers or anything though
ditto, I always have problems with my laptop. As long as I get started (IE. know where one key is, I can figure out the rest) I'm fine I never realised that it was called "touch typing", I was at a computer one day typing away when my mentor came along and started to talk to me and I continued to type while she was talking to me.
As long as I have a starting point, then I'm fine. IE, I'll look at the first letter that I'm going to type, then I know my way around. Probably best I don't look at it too much, it's so skanky and dirty... but when you get used to one that you like, you don't want to change.
Yes I can touch type, dunno how I learnt it though, just did as soon as I got my computer, although not the "proper" way for example like puting your fingers on the F and J bumps and typing properly, dunno how to describe
Yea I can touch type, on my keyboard, every other type of keyboard, split keyboards(just), apple keyboards and lappy's. I do love those old keyboards tho, that make the clicking noise's when you type, and feel strange. For some reason I can sometimes type quicker on them. * not showing off - S
Best way to test, sit under the table with your keyboard still on the desk, then type something that some tells you to To be honest you dont have to teach yourself to touch type, you just learn to after many years of using a computer! Or you could do what a friend of mine has done;
I just think it's funny how many people have made typos and and say they can touch type perfectly... Personally, I can nearly touch type, but certainly don't use the right fingers. I think it was acrim who mentioned the Fn/Ctrl thing - very annoying - my gf's lappy has that, so I'm now getting it wrong on my new one (got it yesterday) even though it's the 'right' way around. edit: try this kb: http://www.keyboardco.com/KBCORB001_keyless_keyboard.htm
Just switched to dvorak, you can download the dvorak keyboard file off the microsoft website, just type "dvorak". However, I've noticed that ***switched back to qwerty, took me 5 flaming minutes to type the first two sentences*** copying and pasting isn't as easy to do with dvorak as it is with qwerty. I'll learn dvorak sometime, I just need to change the keys of an old keyboard instead of having to look at a piece of paper for the keys.
i can touch type on laptop keyboards and 'normal' (IBM Standard) keyboards, those natural ones,, i dont find them.. natural.. tends to hurt my right wrist because of the awkward angles too... (i've broken it in the past, has to be at a nice angle for it not to ne painful ).. i guess i'm not natural.. freak of nature and all \\RiPz//
Hi, Sorry to bump this up. But I didn't want to start a new thread for this. http://typera.tk/applet.cws?language=du There you can measure how fast you can type. I've got "Your score: 396 keys per minute ~ 79 words per minute" with 3 mistakes made. Gonna try again, I'm sure I can go over 400 keys per minute. L ::edit:: Broke the 400 barrier. Your score: 404 keys per minute ~ 80 words per minute (again 3 mistakes made) Up to 450 now, lol.
screw that, I can only type quickly in english, the more often I use a word the quicker I can type, I stuggle with tricky english words, in another language is just a nightmare, so many mistakes
i can touch type seriously well and also by looking at the keyboard, dont know what i do though tbh....
