there is no 1 ghz fanless epia. Only the lower models. if you visit epiacenter you can see all the boards variations and upcommings. Anyways they say that the epia nano itx 1gz is fanless but the few shots they have shown from the engineer sample do in fact have a fan. Many shots show the boards without the heatsink on the board. Just the board with the bare naked chip. If you do further research you will see that all the 1 ghz models do in fact use a fan. Under stress an 1 ghz epia actually puts out alot of heat. I downloaded a pdf for the epia nemiah core awhile back and under stress it was peaking over 30 watts. Sometimes almost as high as 35. Pretty high considering a pentium m is 21 and typically ALOT less like 6 or 7 watts with speed step and it would chew up an epia and spit it out. How cool an apple is to an epia I dont know but alot of folks at epiacenter do in fact seen to be VERY interested in the product so without a doubt it will effect epia sales.
*calms down* OK. I apologize that all my examples have been rubbish and you don't approve of them. Plus, I never planned on buying a Mac Mini in the first place, I'm just giving the justifications for one. But, my point is, there are some definent uses. Plus, it's kinda cool. Sure you can built one yourself, and make it shiny and lit up, and more powerful, and yada yada. But, sometimes you just need to expand those horizons and try the OS on the other side
THanks for the tip's and advice, I think I have settled my mind to get one. Oh pygo, there is a version war driving software for mac, it's called.. "me goes to find".. bleh 10mines cant find will find it some day. - S
It's called MacStumbler!, Sc0rian you f0000l! There are some more too, ask me about them on IRC if you want
I think it was a good purchase...simply because you can't get even an Epia in that small of a box, fanless. I still think it would be a cool thing to have, quite handy, plus cool as ****
It is also a lot faster than any Itx board (apart from the ones that take p4 chips) and has better onboard graphics. Personally i think the main thing it is missing is 5.1 sound, stereo just doesnt cut it for an HTPC.
Well I've always fancied a mac and for 500 odd quid here's the perfect opportunity! That and I've got a mac keyboard so it was only a matter of time before got a mac to use it on ...
rofl hex, I nubed myself. to much red wine that day. I cant believe, 100% n00bed myself:|. BLAH!... Althought im still sure there is another one!. Also, for the same mount of money you can get a real sexy apple notebook second hand on ebay - S
i voted no cause i just plain don't like mac's and i'm not about to so don't even try to "convert" me, people have tried and failed.
hmmm.. very true. then you could run bsd on it and make it function just like a real one. would be fun to fool some friends. then just fire up wine and play some cstrike with them (assuming there isn't a mac version of cstrike )
