My family gots a big house, we´ve got two floors, and I live in the upper one.
And our adsl modem is downstairs, right below me. (about 2 meter´s down)
So, i need to get a wireless switch, that I can turn them modem on, late at night´s (cause my dad will close it in the evening).
The remote control-thingy is with me, and I´d have to get some plug things inside the modembox. And I have a problem.
What is the parts, what I will need, How can I do it??
There isnt that much room in the modem box, so its got to be small.

    Plz! Help me!!

Ehkä isälläsi on hyvä syy napata virrat pois boksista. Vaikutat senverta nuorelta että voisit unohtaa tämän idean samantien ja käydä koulusi kunnolla.

Loppupeleissään: Ilmeisesti isäsi maksaa liittymän -> isäsi määrää sen käytöstä.

    And in english.

Maybe your dad has a good reason to cut off the connection. Since you are in school, you might aswell forget this idea and get on with the school.

After all your dad pays the connection -> you follow his rules.

thats a mobo power switch... might be able to use the doorbell part of it for the modem, though. maybe wire the doorbell switch in paralell with the router switch.... does the router use a momentary or non-momentary switch to turn on? get a switch of that type and wire it up like this:
you could convince your dad to get a wireless router if any of you have laptops... that wouldnt stop the modem problem, though. my dad wants to do the same thing, but he's the worst procrastinator ever... worse than me. [IMG]

[bad idea] Hmm...have any soldering skills? Remove your outlet cover from the wall. In between the 120VAC line and the inputs to this outlet (not the part you plug into, but the part where it gets its power), connect one of the wireless switches from bbigboy101011's post. Replace outlet cover, and voila! You have a hidden wireless switch to control anything connected to it (if you are crazy enough to get close to your 120VAC line, which, I myself wouldn't do). [/bad idea]

maybe if you opened up the modem, you could reroute the power switch so that it only turned off the power LED, not the rest of the modem.
So, someone hit's the switch, light go's out, 'modem must be off then' they think...
And if you actually wanted it off you just pull the power out at the wall.

You have to turn off all the LEDs or it will look strange.

If his dad gets suspicious and tries turning it off and then goin online he'll find out easy enough. Better to mod the actual power switch.

That switch that turns it off will probably disconnect 1 (or both) of the AC power lines. What you do is get one of those wireless modules, and put the switch ends in parallel to your original switch. It's like having two light switches for one light. If there's room in you modem, it should be easy! Make sure that the switch can handle high voltages though, otherwise you'll fry it and that won't smell nice.

Get that, rip off all the labels and say it's a surge protector, plug the modem in to it and hide it in wires You could get a friend thats a computer whiz to come over with one on his hand and be like "dude I just found this on the ground, want it?" and you could say (in front of your dad) "yeah, the internet connection drops sometimes during windstorms, lets connect this to the modem". Voila, and if you think it's too easy, well, we already gave you good ideas, and if you get what you get..

Though I do agree with he who pays the connection makes the rules on it the Hacker in me says yes but rules are meant to be bent. So two options here both are simple and not very expensive. 1. Get an x10 controller for the plug behind the modem there ya go that was easy and it would be easier yet if you turned it off before he did :). Second way get yourself a dsl modem in your room. When he shuts his off you go through your modem and connect the same way you normally do, but you have to enter his username and password.

Parents who shut it off to block porn make me laugh. The internet is so easy to monitor through your computers parents. All you gotta do is install one of the Mommy Daddy backdoors on their computers and monitor activity weekly. I believe www.webattack.com has some good ones.

Adults who get in trouble from spouses for looking at porn cause your spouse sees the evidence. This one is so easy to get by as well because I am just that good. Goto: http://www.mezzy.com and tell it where you want to go. Instantly it will block all the garbage from the site and hide that you went to the site. Everything is recorded as visiting mezzys cgibin for temporary stuff so it cant be reopened.

This could go on all day because with me it just gets more complicated by the minute. So enjoy Parents, adults, and behave kids. Anyone with questions feel free to send me a private message I don't mind. :hip:
