Hmm. I guess my post died not good enough to generate comments between real life commitments! oh well mini update time.. its been too damn cold to try and do any painting, and having a woman around the apt makes it hard to use loud manly powertools.. drat the luck.. but i will be off on thursday and have time to do some real modding work... Off ebay i got 2 of these CoolerMaster CoolDrive2 HDD 5 1/4 bay hdd cooler/silencer according to all the reviews the fans are great and not as noisy as OTHER 40's however. I know now why they were being sold on ebay. they are loud. even if I was not a modder.. i would still hate them. besides which the front looks stupid on them.. thankfully the bay covers work around and over them, so I will have to decide on a look for them to allow air into the (currently) noisy fan... which will later on be taken down to 5v, not as much air will get pushed, but more then there was... and it *should* be much quieter... Plus this frees up the 3 1/2 bay so i removed that so there is more *space* on the inside of the case for glowy things hinted at before... When I first did some of the wiring... Later on after I wired all the UV LED's and the nice electrical fire..
its some cheap ass radio shack wire... all the numbers were set for the voltage i was running it through etc, tested it out on other stuff, was ok... so went for broke and started smokin and flamin... about 1 second of fun before i hit the power
Ok. so no posts for a long time. real life sucks! all joking aside, one of the main reasons I havent done work lately is trying to figure out these drive covers for the CoolDrives There is the fan that needs airflow, and I am trying to think of some type of cut i can do to keep it looking both "stealthed" and fit the theme of the mod just dont know what yet. any ideas? talk to me people!
Scrap that ugly plastic front, grab the original alum drive bay cover, and do what you want for air intake, possibly add your own 40mm fans. Nice painting skills. I have looked at getting that case off of newegg.com, its a great deal for an aL case with removable MB tray. Cool Mod!!!!
nice paint job on the camo. just dont like this black/yellow stuff oin the front. damn wire fire always remember buy the good stuff for your baby its worth it. anyway keep on modding and update us
As antiHero says, the front doesn't really work with the rest of the case- the camo looks great though! Maybe continue that kind of thing on the front panel?
Well I am planning on using the blanks that came with the case for the 5 1/4 bays (x2) for the CoolDrive. I am thinking that I will sand down/repaint the front bez to match the rest of the case, however I need to think of a design to dremel into the blank for intake for the 40mm fans attached to the CoolDrive 2's __________ | ////\\\\ | ------------ | \\\\//// | ------------ slash vents.. or several lines through the cover _____________________ | ---------------- | | ---------------- | | ---------------- | ------------------------ The 40mm fan is centered in the bay, the middle 2 bays of the 4 I have the hdd's in, the top and bottom will be stealthed CDRW/DVD and a plain CD-rom just to have things look even so _______________ | CDRW/DVD | | CoolDrive 2 | | CoolDrive 2 | | CD-Rom | ----------------- (didnt feel like messing with M$ Paint) Also had a suggestion to just do a cut out in front of the fan and just use modders mesh (a little over used though) hmm..
like this one more. __________ | ////\\\\ | ------------ | \\\\//// | ------------ its not so straight forward as the other. keep on modding
Ok no pics. but what I have done Wired up my belgin switch (no led though looks better w/o) working on redo'ing the LED's in the fans... (doh!) Fixed the second white CCFL to illuminate the ChemW Chart better Trying to aquire some mesh soon to make my new stealthy covers for them cooldrive2's
This hole mod has some UNBELIEVEBLE PAINTING!!! How can you do this!! Your paintings may be the coolest in the hole bit-tech history!!
I am [H]ard at work.. um. yea will take the existing bay cover.. dremel out the "white" parts two rivets per side holding in the mesh most likely mesh will be black with the flo. oj colors for the script like I did on the sign for the top of the case maybe later on I will wire some of my UV leds (if I have any left) and back light it..
Tell me what you think about : (it will be much cleaner and spaced out better when I do it on the mesh.. but just an idea....) Feedback plz! kthxuvrmch Other Feedback request. I have heard alot of bitching about the black/yellow on the front the front B will get sanded -> painted Urban Camo (when it warms up) but what about the section with the power button/usb and bottom of the case. //reminder of what it looks like\\ Since some have said they dont like it. tell me what should be there instead! I challenge you! Work with me here people!
//RANT// I am tired of seeing computer mods that simply 1)add holes for watercooling parts. 2)wire sleeve 3)paint 4)done. \\RANT\\
sorry if i have been too harsch. ok u want a task or something !?!chalanging!?! damn english. how about puting a crystal lcd in the front and program the biohazard sign in 3D and spinning. how about that? or put a Res with green UV water in the front and let bubbles run tru, like those watertowers u can buy. something like that.
Hehe. no water cooling on this rig. Spent enough on parts, paints, and tools so far Just thinking... I already installed the plexi for that big square boring looking window... Now im thinking I should do some mod work to the window... maybe doing the Urban cammo look to it and using uv-reactive paints on parts. errr or something more official looking... hmm. more ideas for feedback and comments on!
I prefer this one, it has a real 'Army' feel to it. How about an etch on the window to give it some focus? not really sure what you're after.
