I have an Onkyo 5.1 reciever, that i really like. The styling and layout are great, but there was always something missing... The cool blue ring of light arround the volume knob, found on the higher models with THX Select. This, I had to change.

This is what i started with.

To make this work, i would need to find 3.3v, or at least find availible dc juce that could be steped down. And I did! Clearly marked on the digital output board was a nice 5v, and right beside, the dc common.

The two pins closest to the top right of the board.

To step it down/make it dimable, i put a potentiometer in-line. Throrough extensive scientific research, we found 2 LED's would be enough :D.

My friend came up with a better idea that mine on how to mount the LED's, so we went that way. I made a small disc, with 3 holes, out of a cd case. This would serve to hold the LED's without drilling a hole in the chassis of the reciever.

    Wow, thats bright!!

Now use some some high-tech light distribution material inside the knob, (we chose gloss paper), and away you go! The distribution was perfect! :D

Why stop there? Imagine the fun in the nightclub. You also wouldnt need a light when going to the bathroom late at night.
