hey guys, im actually from an australian modding site www.ozcasemodz.com but wanted to join up and share with you my latest mod, as i've spend alot of time reading the bit-tech forums over the years and have been amazed at the quailty and overall mods some people here have achieved. So i hope the bit-tech admins dont mind me linking to another site, if you do, please delete this thread and maybe send me a PM. so enough of the talk, info and pics The idea was to make a very simplistic case (something im not use to in modding ) which will hold my HTPC. The case will be situated on a TV cabinet in the lounge room, so it was important to not go to mad with 'out there' designs. I've always wanted to make a wooden case, so I sore this as the perfect time to do just that, so here it is, project of woody: Pics: Finished layers not sanded: just sanded, final sanding not completed: look at the inside with MB tray in: case sanded, you will notice a hole, thats where the stealthed cdrom drive sits these pics are of the case with no MB tray, and its first coat of varnish, looks 10x better in real life: Top is finished: some stats for you: - All that timber started off as a table - Every strip was cut on a saw bench - There are 72 cubes 6cm x 2cm - 29 strips of wood (not counting cubes) - 1 whole day just to cut the wood. ________________ so thats where i'm at now, at the moment im just waiting for some gear to arrive and for the varnish to dry so i can give it a few more coats. there is alittle more info on my ozcasemodz thread: http://forum.ozcasemodz.com/viewtopic.php?t=310 once again, i apoligise to the admins if i have broken any rules linking to another site. (i know some forums dont like it) oh and sorry about lack of built up pics, i didnt have my camera with me the first day and a half of modding will post back when more has been done Cheers, Michael
um thanks, i dont really know what you mean by "undone" but anyway. another small update: this is what it will kinda look like when finished... you will notice some marks, this is because of the light sanding before the next layer of varnish goes on... i assure you there not there now lol, no dodgy paint work here you will also notice by looking in the lid the original colour of the wood and how much the varnish really brings it up. (varnish is a clear satin btw) 1 more coat tomorrow and the varnishing is finished, then there wont be much in the way of updates till wednesday when i pick up the perspex..
Looks great so far! I like how you have combined different colored wood to a pattern. What kind of wood are you using?
the redish wood is Tasmanian Myrtle and the whiteish wood is a Pine. yea im please with how it came out, as its actually recycled wood (was originally a table that i made in school some years back). Myrtle is a fairly hard wood too so there was nearly and 4 hours of sanding involved.
Oh, I didn´t notice it was coming out that way... Im sorry, I didnt mean at all, that it looks like you havent done it a lot, i meant, that people hasnt done that before, an I approciate that, you have maked something "not already so much done"
Nice work, that first coat of varnish is popping out the grain in the wood very nicely. Good work, looking forward to updates!
looks sweet... reminds me of lincoln logs or however u spell it. those were so awesome when i was younger
thanks for the comments guys... its just really frustrating at the moment, i really want to get stuck into it and get it finished, but i cant as i have to wait for the varnish to dry (8 hours) and i cant pick up the perspex till wednesday... really got the mod bug on this project lol
i was thinking at first that it would be hot working out side but i found out ur a tasmaininan and its like 10C there. looks good
hahaha your joking right? only gets that low in the middle of winter.. at the moment its 22+ every day
I'm always a fan of nicely-done wood cases, and this, my friend, is a nicely done wood case. It looks great so far. Keep up the awesome work!
