Ok I need some free software to format a HD since my computer doesnt seem to recognize the PS2 HD I put in my computer. I dowloaded the free trial of Partition Magic 8.0 to see if it even recognizes it, and it does show up, however the free trial of PM isnt a functional copy.

What software would you suggest I use?

Or let me know how to format under windows 2000. I'm not sure how to do it since Windows 2000 apparently doesn't use the FDISK command. I tried to Format E: and it said the drive doesn't exist.

It's not listed in My Computer, and I tried to auto detect with Add New Hardware but it didnt detect anything.

Partition Magic lists it as an Unallocated drive.

Try a Windows XP or a Linux Install CD to try to format it.

Are you sure it is the formatting? Is 5V/12V OK, are the master/slave/cable jumpers set correctly? Does the drive show up correctly in the BIOS setup?

I never found that windows hesitated to wipe a hard drive.

If it doesn't detect the hard drive as allocatable, it won't format it. You said PartitionMagic detects the drive, but says unallocated?
