Has anybody noticed that Pop-up windows have had a resurgence in the past couple of weeks? Even though you have pop-ups turned off? The beeb has:

Most internet users dislike them with a passion and web browsers have tried to banish them, but it seems that pop-up adverts may be popping up again.
Web developers have fought hard to create technology enabling people to block pop-ups, adverts which appear at random and are difficult to remove.

A reported rise in pop-ups in recent weeks, however, has raised fears that such technology can be bypassed.

The recurring problem will have many web users pulling their hair out.

    More here

I had heard of this before the beeb report; several Mac sites had noticed that even though Safari had pop-ups blocked, they where still getting through. At the time, it was believed to be a bug introduced with the release of OSX 10.3.8 - but it was then pointed out that it was happening in other browsers as well...

Ah well. I suppose it's just another round in the advertiser vs blocker war.

Actually I haven't noticed any. Firefox is blocking them all fine... so far!

I've started seeing them again in the last couple of weeks in FF and IE, even when blocked.

I've noticed this as well, it caused me to check my browser settings a couple of times. How are they slipping through the net?

Firefox doesn't block New Scientist's popup:

    http://www.newscientist.com/

I think it's strange how browsers can allow popups. New windows/tabs should only appear after clicking on something. Why can't they program that into the browser?

Me neither. I have had maybe one or two in the last month, but I can handle that.

I've gotten two since Firefoxing but placed that down to going to stupid sites and nothing being perfect. Still, beats the hundreds to thousands with pre-SP2 IE (and even the dozens that SP2'd IE misses)

I'm using Firefox 1.0 on Windows XP, and I'm getting no pop-ups on any of the links provided.

Same here, but I have been getting the occasional pop-up every few days lately , and that's on non-dodgy websites. (just in case you lot start making assumptions) :worried:
