i assume they do use CCFL's in LCD's but those themselves arent from LCD's, they are just standard dual cthode kits. i will be making a trip to B&Q tomorrow, see what i can pick up to get this motorised lifting on the go, might also go to maplins, get some of the electronics sorted things still left to do this weekend: (deffinitely will get done) line the interior of the case with my leatherette fit interior cathodes fit case fan things i might get done this weekend: sort out some electronics sort out my motor thingy
i'd say 24 hours Isuo, next one will be a fully leatheretted interior, i might also do the cathodes on the same one
Forgot about this log...don't know why. But it's looking great mate! The software is v.good, having tried it myself I can say it really is handy.
considering i told you "omg i just broke a cathode" in IRC, wasnt a very good prediction... heh not to worry, ordered a spare, should be easy enough to swap it out, i shall have to not put my case ontop of things that arent flat from now on Thanks for the nice commants guys, i'll try and keep it up
ok, i run into some problems, i went to maplin, got my electronics components, built my circuits, and they dont work reliably, like... when my cathodes are supposed to be off, they are half on, they get 6v rather than 0, this means i'm gonna have to redesign my circuits completely, meh! next time i build it i will get my pcb routed properly at college, rather than stripboard too, make it that little more reliable, and small. money wasted so far: £6.74 =[
Update: Lined Interior Ok, i've lined the interior of the case with the leatherette today, aswell as finding out that my electronics dont work, will begin design of new electronics ASAP - any ideas would be greatly appreciated Only had time to take one photo before my camera's batteries died, and not a very good one either, will get some more soon \\RiPz//
Very small update: window design... i've tried to draw this as best i can, working with transparency isnt fun at all .. the two lines of text will be lit with an LED each.. can kinda see this from the image... I odnt actually know how i will achieve the etched effect.. 1) actually get some plexi laser etched - COST? 2) use "glass frosting" - Crap, maybe ? 3) use a light 'dusting' of white spray paint - Crap, maybe ? 4) i've also been told about using ascetone to tarnish the plexi, but how would i achive clean edges if i were to do this ?. i'm open to suggestions for changes to the window, and methods to make it etched. \\RiPz//
i have a cyber in panama and i liked that effect and i search to do it and are stores there that makes stickers with that effect looks nice... and you can send them the pattern so they can do it for you. another thing, the heat problem.... maybe you can put some fans in bottom suckin air maybe 2 or 4 fans i think 4 is better 2 in the front 2 in the back suckin air from the floor.... so the heat goes to the top and can be taken by the rear fan... nice mod looks sweet keep ppl from sitting on it... sorry 4 my english i know it Sux
Liking the window design Ripzeh, I think to solve your plexi conundrum you should get it professionally done. It might cost a bit more but the quality I'd say is worth paying that little bit extra. (not that I don't trust you with solvents)
You could tape over what you dont want etched with a few layers and then sand it lightly with a medium grit paper, say 220 or so until its a uniform look... Or you can use a dremel and lightly etch it with an etching bit... A good idea would be to tape up the parts you dont want etched, a few layers, then get it sandblasted by someone... Most schools with a decent art course will have a sandblaster.
