Someone needs to explain to me why you would put a lcd screen on the side of the computer, I mean it looks like a million $$, but is there any functionality. Always a pleasure seeing fellow modders on a roll. Keep the goodies coming.

Well we'd all rather have him modding sober than screwing up the case in hopes of getting out updates faster. Pitbull, probably sometime on the weekend if he continues the same trend he has for the last eight months...
Never drink and dremel!! Yes, weekend updates are about all I have time for. I work 45-55 hours a week to pay the bills.
ShoNuff just send me a few pictures of his up-and-running Aqua-Computer Aquaero VFD. Those pictures have me itching to get my Aquaero working. I will try to get it installed this weekend. It's not as straight forward as it sounds. The unit will need a mod to fit into the 5.25" bay (my wiring gets in the way of the stock mounting bracket) and I may need change the location of the units mounting bolts. The weekend....
Not like the red faceplate wasn't modding it Now I really want one. I'm assuming VFDs basically don't have viewing angle problems like LCDs do (my crystalfontz one sucks that way!)... but I know it's not happening for quite some time. It would look sooooo good... but it's just not happening after the 6800s. Luckily it worked out that I do have a bay free, just in case. Oh... I've got an idea... send me yours and I'll make sure it works for you.
VFD's are brighter and have a wide viewing angle and also have a higher contrast ratio (EZer to read from a distance). You can also change a VFD to any color with the correct VFD filter (which Aqua-Computer does not include). Unfiltered the text color is a pale green w/black backround. The Aqua-Computer Aquaero's price is high ($300) when comparied to a Martix Orbital 2line VFD (MX3 series $130). BUT the Aquaero can: Monitor (6) temp sensors (as can the MO, but Aqua-Computer uses a different type of probe not compatible with the MO's). Control (4) fans (same goes for the MO, I think) Control (2) LED's or one dual colored LED, with many adjustable parameters. Control an AC AquaStream pump ( adjust pump speed/flow rate). Monitor flow rate (with there flow meter). Aqua-Computer is also working a H20 level sensor (for the AquaTube) that will work with the Aquaero's 20pin expansion port. With the optional ATX power cable you can have the Aquaero shut down your machine for lack of flow rate, high temp, pump failure ect. So, all-in-all, it's a slick (but $) unit.
that ATX cable just taps into the 5v SB line, doesn't it? Kinda a problem for those of us with 24pin plugs too (not to mention the ugliness of adaptors) Looking at the PCB (of the LE version)... Hello everyone this is my first time to post here and to start things off I would like to say that this one of the more impressive mods I have ever seen, outstanding work here Modsquad. Most of this is all new to me as I have just now reentered to world of computers.
From what I understand the Aquaero LT is the same as the boxed LCD version W/O the mounting screen, temp probes and USB cable. It is 119EURO. The price you listed is for a Aquaero VFD 3.07 (the extra $45 is SNT's mark-up). Remember Dan saying he is not making any $ on this stuff!! If that is true he is paying $45 dollars to ship each Aquaero to the States.. As for the ATX power cable, you are correct. There is no 24pin version (not yet anyway) and it does make wiring more difficult (I will not be using it for this project).
It's safe to assume it would only be used for allowing the VFD to display some sort of stock information using the standby cable anyways, right? I would just as soon hardwire an extention to the PCB of the PSU anyways, not mess with adaptors. Too messy.
You are correct that is what the adaptor is, a standby power plug for the relay on the aquaero via a ATX extension cable. You could wire-up something of the same order yourself.
Ambient Temp Probe Before I install the Aqua-Computer Aquaero VFD I wanted to setup the units ambient temperature probe. I will be using a Innovatek HD probe (actually two, one for ambient and one for case temp). First off some new Metric tools I just picked up. A Snap-On Tap & Die set (M2 to M12) and a set of Xcelite Allen wrenches (1.27mm to 5mm) and a reaming blade. Let's put them to work.. The Ambient probe will be mounted in a PCI slot cover plate. Two holes drilled, I then tapped them for the temp probe and a M3 hexhead bolt. which will hold a red acrylic cover in place. After more drilling/filing/polishing this is what I ended up with. And installed in the case. Almost finished. I still have to mod a 3mm chrome LED clip to act as a collar for the copper probe. The rest of the temperature probes are no problem, so I will try to get the Aquaero VFD installed tomorrow..
