I was wondering if anyone has ever added a wireless power switch to there pc, I have been thinking about it and dont think it would be that hard. If I use a wireless doorbell and wire in a relay instead of the speaker the wire the outputs of this to the switch wires from the mobo. Heres what Im thinking its probably been done a million times before, but I was just wondering.
In this months PCExtreme they have this exact mod. The relay that is connected to the speaker is connected as in your drawing. Meblin
The accent/kanam HTPC cases have a module for this. Anyone know enough about IR to throw together a schematic that can receive the power on signal and activate the power of a pc? edit: found something that may prove useful, but i'd have to know the code to flash the PIC: linky
gooogle it! http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/irremote.htm you could do away with the relay in that n use a transistor.
What are you trying to do? If you want to turn on/off power to your computer where does the speaker come in? For security would consider going RF with something like this? http://www.oceancontrols.com.au/controllers/uhf remote controllers.htm
The relay that is connected to the doorbell speaker is connected to the switch wire (speaker is removed). When the wireless button is pressed it makes a connection via the relay (ie a conection is made to sound the doorbell but is making a connection like pushing the switch). Meblin
The cheap wireless door bells that I have drive the sound circuitry directly and the speaker has tiny fraction of a Watt. Not enough juice to drive a relay.
Most wireless doorbell kits will require several AA batteries, it might be possible to hack into the 5vsb line instead though. Anyway, this mod has been done many times with plenty of success http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28523
