Windows window shuts down problem

    my pc rarly shuts down by its self.....it does sometimes but it usally just stays at "saving your settings" and then doesnt get any further that that...some 1 help me please?

    He's using Windows Xp pro.

    Are you running a Pre-SP1 installation of Windows XP? If so, this was a known problem fixed in SP1.

    no i am running windows Xp service pack 2

    Okay, that's fine. There are several other issues, mainly related to various hardware, which can cause Windows XP to hang at the "saving your settings" dialog box. Can you post the specs of your machine please, if you know. It might also help if you would post the make of components like your motherboard and graphics card.

    Also, if you do leave your computer for a long time does it eventually completely shut down?

    sorry i dont actually no alot about my machine.
    all i know is that its amd athlon(tm) Xp 2400+, 2 ghz, 256 mb of ram. soon to be 768mb of ram :D

    And does the computer eventually shut down if left long enough?

    no... i used to turn it off at night and then when i wake up in the mornin its still on and says "saving your settings" so i dont think it does

    Before I check any of your hardware that can be the cause, do you use the Windows XP welcome screen? Try turning it off in the control panel and see if your PC shuts down properly
