News Area 51 secrets unveiled by Google

    Wil has obviously scant regard of the threat from Black Helicopters... As his piece from the Inq amply demonstrates:

    AN ENTERPRISING surfer has found a way to harness Google's new mapping facility to uncover the secrets of Area 51.

    The American military base, in the Nevada desert, is steeped in history and rumour - allegedly being the place where all of Uncle Sam's work with extra-terrestrials and physics-defying technology takes place. The place is so heavily guarded, it's almost impossible to get within miles of it.

    However, with satellite map technology, you can uncover some pretty spectacular pictures of the base, including some interesting structures in and around it that can't quite be identified.

    Homeland security? We've heard of it.

    L'inquage with follow on l'inquage to detailed instructions on how to get to Area 51...

    It's been seen a million and one times before using other (and often higher resolution) satellite imaging sources.

    Wow, they're catching on to this now? That's the first thing I looked at when I heard that google had satellite maps. What's more interesting is the nuclear testing field to the west of Area 51. Some really cool craters there, and some roads that snake along the craters.

    anyone else noticed, if you go to the green circle things, and switch it back to the "map" mode.. well....(sorry for big pics)

    I'm curious as to why some parts are in red and higher res while others are in full colour and lower res :confused:

    edit: what happens when you switch back to map mode over the green things? I haven't noticed anything strange...

    Interesting how the distance you can zoom in by has now been restricted.

    change the zoom level a bit. it just has trouble loading sometimes.

    woohoo, i managed to find it, however, it doesnt seem to let you zoom in all the way :) it doesn't have imagary at the nomral reoslution it would og into :)
