Well its going out a com port so I'm hedgin my bets and saying its going to an lcd :D Now with those settings I would bet on a kind of lcd fan control and cathode thing :D

Controlling neons with software, how original.

    Rock on!

btw, that wasn't meant to sound sarcastic

Did you build the serial interface that's controlling these yourself, or is it as some people are guessing a LCD display based thing ?

I imagine you'd need some aditinal components to get the cathodes to strobe....and incidentally, isn't that a bad idea....might shorten their life (?)

Hehe, gordy got it pretty much spot on :D

Works a treat, and with cathodes at a fiver a go, who cares :p

Are you using the GPOs on a matrix-orbital LCD to control that stuff?

What kind of transistors are you using to interface, or do you have the expensive LCD where the GPOs can source a couple hundred milliamps?

OHHH OHHH OHHH... I KNOW I KNOW :D

and linear, the "expencive one" can source our 1 Amp per GPO for a grand total of 8 Amps...

And I have absoloutely no idea what Henry means, I just know that if I attach a neon to it, it works :D (well, unless you let the positive and negative bare wires touch, but that's a different story...:p)

OK, lets clear that up... most of our LCDs have GPOs and they can generaly ONLY source out 25mA at +5V. Some of the graphic units can do 250mA at +5V. The LK204-25-PC that you have, can provide 750mA to 1 Amp at +12V per GPO. So you connected up a neon light to any other unit or a fan, you might see the magic smoke come out.

The LK204-25-PC uses MOSFETS (335) to work, to make any of the other LCDs of ours do it, you would have to use the GPO on the unit and a Transistor or a MOSFET and +5V or +12V input power connection that would work with the Transistor or MOSFET.

I hope this clears things up, let me know if not...

Hmmmmm you're getting me interested.... so what is this "expensive one" ??

Edit: Oh the LK204-25-PC is the expensive one is it?

Henry can you give me some more details via email, Im a little confused but very interested in getting the GPOs running my neons and fans.

And would like to get this little project up and running for i9 (3 weeks away) so I can pimp it lots !!!

    Cheers

OMFG... wowowowowow... just had an idea, imagine if you could integrate it into the HL engine...

e.g. for TFC you could have your 'usual' blue lights and if you picked up the flag it would automatically change to strobing red (or something) how cool would that be at a lan?

    (sorry getting carried away now...)

btw isn't 200 degrees a little on the warm side?

    Kazza

    p.s. lo all btw ;);)
